  • Deeperstill is a party series that got it's start at the infamous Club Der Visionaere in Berlin, Germany. Hosted by both Daniel Bell and Barbara Preisinger, Deeperstill would start in the lazy afternoon sun and would finish up at 8 or 9am the next morning. Past guests have included Zip, Patrice Scott, Cassy, Mike Huckaby, The Mole, Audio Werner and Baaz. Now for the first time in the U.S., we present Deeperstill Detroit, a 19 hour long outdoor event at TV Lounge. Artist Info: Pole Stefan Betke, aka Pole, was born and raised in Düsseldorf and currently lives in Berlin. For over a decade, he has been working as a label owner, publisher and mastering engineer, contributing his experience to the development of electronic music. His releases operate in the margins between electronic club music, urban dub, and avant-garde. In 1999, Betke and Barbara Preisinger started their label ~scape, which became an imprint for unique electronic music made by artists such as Jan Jelinek, Deadbeat, Kit Clayton, pole, and many others. In 2011, he launched his new artist label, “pole,” with a series of 12” releases, called Waldgeschichten, and a digital reissue of his full back catalog including classics such as 1, 2, 3, Steingarten, and Steingarten Remixes. pole has performed live in clubs all over the world as well as at festivals like Bestival (Isle of White), Bloc Festival (UK), CTM Festival (Berlin), Mutek (Montreal & Chile), and Unsound Festival (Krakow & New York), just to name a few. His nom de plum derives from a sound-processing device (the Waldorf 4 Pole Filter), which generated the creaks and crackles that characterize his early music. http://pole-music.com/ Daniel Bell Daniel Bell is one of the veterans of the Detroit scene who is still at the forefront of electronic music today. Originally influenced by Chicago House and avant-garde composers such as Steve Reich, Bell's music laid the foundation for what is now known as the "minimalist" approach in house and techno music. After moving to Detroit in 1990, Accelerate Records was created as an outlet for Bell's music. Recording under the name DBX, the 1994 single “Losing Control” was described by AllMusic as “one of the biggest underground smashes of the decade.” The hypnotically stark compositions released on Accelerate proved to be influential and sent his contemporaries (and copycats) off in a new “less-is-profoundly-more” direction. As well as being active behind the scenes running a distribution company and a record store in Detroit, Bell co-founded the 7th City, Harmonie Park and Elevate record labels. Bell's releases on Elevate especially have become some of the most sought after records in the collector's market. One release, "The Symphony (Can You Feel It)" became a standard in clubs such as Berlin's Panorama Bar ten years after it's release thanks to it being championed by djs such as Ricardo Villalobos. In 2000, after the overwhelming success of his first mix cd, "The Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell" (Resident Advisor awarded it 2nd Best Mix CD of the 00's"), Bell became the first North American dj to take up permanent residence in Berlin, Germany. While in Berlin, he recorded for several European labels including Logistic, ~scape, Perlon and Tresor, and spent the bulk of his years there on a relentless dj schedule that took him to almost every part of the globe. In 2008, Bell launched his first world tour as a solo live act. Despite the trend toward laptop live shows, Bell travelled with a collection of vintage synths and drum machines. The tour was met with critical acclaim and was awarded Resident Advisor's Best Live Act of 2008 - "DBX live proved that Bell remains techno's greatest reducer". Now back in Detroit, Bell hopes to develop his musical vision even further with a series of new releases and reissues, as well as a new liveshow to premier this Autumn. Mike Huckaby Tastemaker, Educator, Sound Designer, and Motor City Proponet. Mike Huckaby has done much for Detroit electronic music. The man behind the once legendary Record Time store has gathered an encyclopedic knowledge of music. He is one of those guys who knows all the roots and culture of electronic dance music. He is a person who can see beyond the hype and divisions within the scene. Mike knows exactly what the music is. Mike Huckaby has become the busiest remixer from Detroit in the past few years. Mike has been busy producing music on his two labels, Deep Transportation, and S Y N T H, which are well known amongst underground djs worldwide. With highly acclaimed deep house productions and remixes for Deepchord, Juan Atkins, Vladislav Delay, Pole, Loco Dice, LoSoul, and Pacou (just to name a few). Mike sees no end in the near future. Furthermore, Mike Huckaby has been touring, djing, and teaching music production with Native Instruments and Ableton software at Youthville, and around the globe extensively. When the discussion of the Detroit / Berlin connection comes to mind, Tresor or Hardwax is usually discussed. But the Detroit / Berlin connection of the millenium and beyond is taking place at Youthville with the assistance of Ableton and Native Instruments, and the work Mike is doing there. Mike brings the Detroit sound of deep house and techno with him. He knows the balance between deep house and techno like no other. Keith Worthy Growing up on Detroit’s East Side, Keith Worthy has been immersed in music for the majority of his entire life. “My parents always made sure to expose me to various types music, since I can remember from R & B classics to disco, soul and everything in between”. As a teenager, Duane “In the Mix” Bradley, one of Detroit’s most legendary D.J./ Producers to date, introduced Keith Worthy to spinning in Detroit’s underground house scene. Bradley took Keith under his wing when he was not even old enough to get into clubs, and exposed him to opening at after hours venues around Detroit. Out of this early exposure Keith developed his own style and a love for deep abstract house and techno and has continuously evolved in his craft throughout his years behind the decks to become one the most versatile selectors regardless of the genre. Worthy has held his own in DJ booths all across the globe, and subsequent to traveling and becoming known for his fierce DJ sets, he has also gained worldwide notoriety for his production endeavors, and as the label owner of the much heralded Aesthetic Audio recording imprint. “The vision for Aesthetic Audio as a brand embodies much of the exact sentiment that is expressed in Worthy’s notorious DJ sets … capturing the raw essence of abstract, and untainted genre free music, and successfully articulating this message without compromise … The global response to the Aesthetic Audio imprint has been overwhelming since the very first release in 2007; with many of the Aesthetic Audio releases being consistently charted al over the world by many of the worlds top DJs and producers. As Keith continues to pen the script … there is certainly more of this story to be told …. the best has yet to come Including Worthy’s first full length album project “The $ of Non-Conformance” coming in the Fall of 2013 !!!! Barbara Preisinger Barbara Preisinger has been an integral part of the Berlin club scene for over a decade. She began DJing in 1996, in her hometown of Munich, before moving to Berlin in 1998. In 1999, she co-founded the label ~scape with Stefan Betke, aka pole. Before long, Preisinger was a resident DJ at regular ~scape nights in Berlin, as well as performing across Europe, Japan, and North America. As a DJ, her passion is to play for the dance floor – mixing kicking house and deep techno – often incorporating the music of close friends and related artists such Mike Huckaby, Baaz, The Mole, Daniel Bell, John Tejada, and others. She has performed at prestigious locations around the globe, including festivals such as Benicassim (Spain), Club Transmediale (Berlin), DEMF (Detroit), Groove Parade (Spain), Mutek (Montreal), Sonar (Spain), and Unsound Festival (Krakow & New York). In 2009, Preisinger started her own 12” vinyl imprint called Slices of Life. http://www.slicesoflife.de/
