The original receipt at the foot of the Eiffel tower with an ethnological touch. In partnership with the Musée du quai Branly, one of the most important museums in the world dedicated to non-occidental culture, our parisian project proposes to musicians an exceptional access to the museum’s audio collection. The carefully selected musicians will thus be invited to sample a set of resources of an unsuspected wealth then to replay it during an ultimate free and open-air public event.

Songwritter adepte d’épure, voir d’ascétisme. Musicien pop tourné vers les avant-gardes. Guitariste autodidacte épris de grande musique. Instrumentiste proche des sphères electro-acoustiques. Si Sylvain Chauveau se plait certainement à brouiller les pistes ou plutôt les étiquettes stylistiques attendues, son parcours, sa discographie, n’en demeure pas moins d’une cohérence exemplaire, en quête d’une certaine forme de beauté absolue. Nul doute, dès lors, qu’il saura construire à partir des chants ancestraux conservés au Musée du quai Branly une œuvre aussi émouvante qu’à son habitude.
Sylvain Chauveau is a songwriter and composer for small ensembles usually including viola, violin, piano and electric guitar. Glacial music with a warm heart and open feelings. Very cinematic in the purest sense, no emotion is overplayed. Like a meeting of Satie, Morton Feldman and Keith Jarrett with microscopic analogue percussive elements and a sense of romanticism and understated melodic drama, though it never comes across as overblown or excessive. Sylvain Chauveau might thus not be the first artist that springs to mind when you think ‘remix’, but his album ‘Abstractions’ manages to sweep up the rare occasions when the French neo-classical feller allows himself to tackle tunes out of his regular comfort zone.

Producteur d’une house lancinante et moite que certains qualifieront de chamanique. On évoquera une transe mystique, évidemment, encore et toujours lorsque l’on évoque les pistes les plus répétitives des musiques électroniques. Mais cette fois-ci plus qu’à raison puisque c’est dans cette perspective précisément que Lowjack explorera le catalogue ethnomusicologique du Musée du quai Branly et en extraira la substantielle moelle hypnotique.
Lowjack has been recognized as a distinctive french voice in the dance music scene. His recorded vocals play indeed a key part in making his house tracks stand out, as much as the slowed down, massive ghetto beats and his sleazy synths. Reviving the Chicago tradition of « tools with a narrative », this « house music from hell», as some already branded it, sounds like it has been created in a rush in between factory hours and a visit to the casino.
