The Main Event is almost here. On Friday March 28th, the hottest party of Conference 08 will take place at Cameo from sunset to sunrise. But unlike many of the other parties at WMC, this one isn't about booking the biggest DJs in the world. With just three weeks to go before Conference kicked in, Diddy contacted Mixmag to see if together they could cook up the perfect line-up. The aim, he explained, was to find the artists and DJs "who are really pushing the envelope. Not the big DJs – I've done that. So who are the hottest names in electro, house and techno today?" Some of the music – like 'The Whistler' by Claude VonStroke and 'My Rendition' by The Martinez Brothers – he jumped on in seconds. "I loved 'The Whistler' as soon as I heard it," says Diddy. "There was a uniqueness in the track and it had edgy motherfuckin' energy. I'm in love wit Claude!"
Once those two were in the bag, the final mission was to find the right DJ to help Diddy bring the party to a close – and when he heard 'Be' by Steve Angello, PD knew that Steve was the man to close the show. "P Diddy is one of the biggest players in hip hop and does something most people only dream of doing," says Steve. "So it feels good that Diddy is into dance music. Sebastian Ingrosso and I did a new mix of Diddy & Felix Da Housecat's "Jack U" recently to remind people that we could build and build and build. It's a real attitude track. And I mean: Felix and Diddy? How could we say no? So, I am bringing a special show to The Main Event. It's going to be a lot of fun."
"Honestly, the reason I'm doing The Main Event is because I'm not impressed with what I've been hearing recently," says Diddy. "A music conference is supposed to be about freshness and innovation and a remarkable music experience. Sadly, I feel that the last couple of conferences have lacked innovation. This party is not for commercial dance music muthf*%kas!"
