  • First, we gave you DJ Sasha. Now we’re set to bring you another icon of electronic dance music, JOHN DIGWEED. Don’t miss him at Villa on Friday 7 June. John Digweed doesn’t need hype. Producer. DJ. Industry legend. A career built on substance. One of the planet’s most popular DJs, his sets never fall out of favour. Like a dance music fairy tale, his DJ remix tape caught the ear of the legendary Renaissance promoter and WHAM, he was working with Sasha. Soon a ‘Renaissance’ CD compilation containing some of their best remixes was released. The album was a surprise huge seller, warranting a follow-up, the whopping ‘Renaissance 2’. Sasha and Digweed continued their collaboration with the Northern Exposure series, compiling the duo's best remixes for other artists. Digweed scored Top 40 hits with ‘Heaven Scent’ and ‘For What You Dream Of’ (with Nick Muir – featured in the movie Trainspotting) and a Top 30 hit with a remix of Chakra's ‘I Am’. Digweed also bought a dance club in the south of England in order to perform and promote on a weekly basis. As visionaries do. Via the Global Underground mix series, he released volumes recorded in Sydney and Hong Kong during 1998, then premiered Bedrock - his combination label and production concern - in late 1999. Bedrock is a mothership of creative ingenuity and integrity that other labels orbit around and is still killing it 14 years on (Bedrock 14, compiled as always by Digweed, dropped in October 2012). Laurels? Resting? Not Digweed. His Transitions radio show is one of the world’s most successful dance music shows, broadcast across 45 countries to a staggering weekly audience of over 14 million. In a dance scene increasingly inhabited by inflated egos and gimmicks, John’s approach remains all drive, no drama, a heads-down crack-on attitude that has won him the respect of his peers. However, the fact remains that John Digweed has notched up a mighty list of groundbreaking achievements since he first became involved in the embryonic acid house scene as a 15-year-old lad in Hastings. But the real beauty in John Digweed’s story lies in his unflinching belief in the music he plays. And with new music comes new chapters in an already astonishing career. From ethereal, swirling cinematic soundscapes to energy-infused bass-bothering tech growlers, a new generation of clubbers are learning what we already know - that there’s nothing quite like being locked into a John Digweed set
