  • Brown Alley is proud to present Balance 023 launch with Radio Slave, Alex Niggeman and Chymera. RADIO SLAVE. Matt ‘Radio Slave’ Edwards is one of electronic music’s true experimentalists; a man rooted in house and techno whose oeuvre reaches much farther beyond. From the downtempo gloss of his Quiet Village project to a half-hour-long remix of Diddy to the audio-visual soundscape immersions of The Machine, he continually strives to push his music forward and keep himself on his toes. It’s this dedication to progression and eclecticism that imbues his 4/4 grooves with such texture and depth, something that runs equally through the releases on his acclaimed REKIDS imprint. His concoction for Balance comes in two distinct parts, its 33 tracks marking a stark contrast to the stripped-back simplicity of his fabric 48 mix. He cites Future Sound Of London’s Kiss FM sessions and DJ Harvey’s Sarcastic as inspirational DJ mixes, both visionaries in their own way. Although it’s not immediately palpable, this mix is imbued with a sense of emotion that came from a turbulent few months for Edwards, making it a more personal musical account than your average mix CD. “This year has been a really tough one so far. I had a minor operation in January which went wrong and what was supposed to be a simple procedure turned into a real nightmare. I had to take 6 weeks off work, cancel a tour to the USA and I couldn't do anything but hope for a speedy recovery. I also split with my girlfriend and had a huge fight with a best friend which is so not me. It was a series of events that seemed totally out of control and it really threw me off balance. So, it meant I had to delay working on this project, but I still believe the end product might be even better due to the earlier events of the year. Emotions and experience are so important for me as an artist and I believe I work best when I need to lose myself in my work and immerse myself in music.” We cant wait to lose ourselves in radioslave on Fri 17th May. Australian release date May 24th, 2013 ALEX NIGGEMANN Persistent, stubborn, straight ahead! - Alex Niggemann can be best described as idiosyncratic, impulsive and selfcritical. What might be construed as negative for some people, are attributes that have paved the way to a remarkable career for this DJ and producer. The influential Get Physical label discovered in 2006 that they had a promising young producer in their own ranks. This led to the release of Booka Shade‘s „Darko“ remixed on a vinyl EP featuring established artists including Tiefschwarz and Radio Slave. Careful networking soon led to a string of DJ gigs all over Germany. From this point forward, Alex performed exclu- sively under his own name. After finishing his degree in 2007, Alex started focusing more on his music career. But, as a typical perfectionist, he could never get his own productions just the way he wanted them. Fortunately, Marc Poppcke, friend and current label partner, decided to submit one of Niggemann‘s tracks to a label. This led to the first release under his own name and ‘Assign Me’ debuted on Sportclub in 2008. 2010 saw Alex launch his Soulfooled label together with Marc Poppcke and Oliver Fritsche from Superlounge in spring and the first record was released in June. The focus at Soulfooled is on creating a new music platform and promptly responding to the trends in the electronic music scene so that artists can release their music sooner. The label has already signed a number of famous international artists including Audiofly, Till von Sein, Phonique and David Durango. Soul- fooled artists represent a cross-section of electronic styles ranging from Deep House and Techhouse, to old school disci- plines like Detroit and Chicago House. In his own words Alex set out to “create an album which is different to typical club or listening albums, where songs fit together (even when having different styles) without being too similar“. He also goes on to say that it‘s very much about “showing the full range of what I‘m able to, what I have done, what I like and what I will do.“ - It’s not hard to believe him, as it‘s a rather eclectic 4/4 album packed with groovy, feel-good house that still offers more hypnotic and darker moments along the way. CHYMERA. Chymera hails originally from Cork, Ireland and after spending time in Dublin, Costa Rica and Barcelona is currently based in Berlin, Germany. Throughout his teenage years he was heavily immersed in various forms of guitar based music. Around the turn of the century his ear was drawn towards sounds of a more electronic nature and he quickly started collecting records and learning how to DJ. In 2002 he made his first steps into production and over the following years gradually honed his skills. His productions often fit comfortably in between house and techno, and range from deeper cuts to epic, big-room tracks, all with a keen sense of melody which has become a trademark of his productions. He had his first international releases in late 2006 which brought him to the attention of the wider world. Since then he has released on various diverse and respected labels such as Delsin, Ovum, NRK, Cocoon, Figure, Komplex De Deep and Connaisseur who released his 2012 album "Death By Misadventure" which showcased a more introspective side: "Infusing chillout, classical, and dance, Death By Misadventure is an impassioned undertaking that pays off in spades.. ...for folks who enjoy music with depth and vision" - Velanche.com Equally comfortable DJing or performing live he plays regularly in many of the world's top clubs throughout Asia, Australia, America and all over Europe.
