After four annual editions Stekker Fest changes its course rigourously for the fifth edition, by changing the way the programme is established. But above all: as of now the name Stekker Fest is in the past and the festival continues as Stekker in the Park, the first edition this year will take place on 27 July 2013, for the second time in the beautiful Voorveldse Polder on the outskirts of Utrecht.
Programming
What exactly is a festival? The answer to that question is as follows: you take a festival site and a lot of stuff, the whole thing is fenced off, tickets are sold, artists are booked and eventually at a certain moment in time, a lot of people gather on the site to watch, play and whirl around. The detail, if there is any, often lies in the location, the price and programming. And just at that programming is Stekker in the Park decided to give it a totally different approach.
Studio Stekker
After the 2012 edition looked programmer Geurt Kersjes (http://justpitto.com/) and Matt Didemus, half of the duo Junior Boys (http://juniorboys.net/about), met in Kytopia and while they walked through the studio complex the first outlines became clear: "Why don’t we invite all artists for the next festival here to make music together?" they asked themselves aloud. The idea for Studio Stekker was born.
For the first edition of Studio Stekker artists like Tim Exile, Gabriel Ananda, Mathew Jonson, Pupkulies & Rebecca, Junior Boys, Penta Tones, Lydmor, Mike Mago, T. Raumschmiere, Nuno Dos Santos and Jackmate are invited along with a number of musicians from the studio complex Kytopia and synthesizer studio Sonar Traffic to create & share music and inspire eachother. Almost all the artists listed above also return to the festival. In addition, Nathan Fake will be playing the festival as well. Other artists will be announced at a later stage.
The organisation reserved a timeslot in the Stekker in the Park time table for a special concert conducted by Studio Stekker participants. Geurt about the idea: "Many artists travel a lot, and are often on the road. This way of living and working doesn’t leave much room for contact between artists, while there is a lot of need to see each other. By inviting artists one week prior to the festival, we have created a situation that enables them to share en produce new stuff together, in a professional environment. It is not possible to determine in advance what exactly will be the outcome and which collaborations will be formed. But the combination with the festival is perfect, because for us as an organization this is a wonderful way to make things exciting and intriguing for our visitors. Apart from that we also like the idea very much! "
A fresh kick-off of the fifth edition of the festival so with a new name and a new programming concept. Tickets are from Wednesday, April 3rd at 12.00 for sale. The first 500 Early Bird Tickets are sold out already. The remaining 3500 tickets cost € 29.50 each and € 27.50 each if you buy five or more at a time.
