Red Bull Music Academy at Splendour in the Grass 2013

  • As part of its 15th anniversary celebrations, the Red Bull Music Academy will be setting up camp at North Byron Parklands with its very own stage at the 2013 edition of Splendour In The Grass. The RBMA-curated stages at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Barcelona’s Sónar are among the most anticipated at those iconic events each year, and Australia’s premier camping festival will be no exception. The globetrotting series of music workshops and events has uncovered a plethora of talent over its 15 years in existence, a handful of whom will be showcased from midday until 2am on every day of the festival alongside some of Australia’s finest beat peddlers. On Friday, 26 July the RBMA Stage kicks off in style as Detroit techno don Rick Wilhite shares the headline slot with RBMA Barcelona 2008 graduate Onra, with local support from Future Classic DJs, Otologic DJs, Mitzi DJs, Charles Murdoch, Hayden James, Andy Webb, Ben Fester and Modern Fairytale. Kiwi future soul songstress Ladi6 and Platinum Pied Pipers producer Waajeed will be joined on Saturday, 27 July by Australia’s own Julien Love (fresh from a trip to New York City for RBMA 2013), Rome 2004 participant Kano, Canyons, SilentJay, Galapagoose, Oisima, Perplex, JPS and Jamie Bennett. RBMA Radio regular James Pants will throw down before househead Maurice Fulton closes the party on Sunday 28 July, with Levins, Cliques, Cassius Select, Ariane, Zanzibar Chanel, Michael Ozone, Pelvis, Holy Balm, Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Toni Toni Lee and GoodGod Sound Unlimited repping for Sydney’s smallest superclub. It’s just the icing on the cake of a line-up that confirms the Red Bull Music Academy stage at Splendour In The Grass is every bit as essential as the offerings that Detroit and Barcelona now take for granted.
