Animals Dancing presents Marcos Cabral (Runaway, L.I.E.S, NYC) at the Mercat Basement on the 13th of September.
A long-time fixture of New York’s Techno scene, Marcos Cabral has kept his hands dirty DJing, producing and working within Brooklyn’s electronic music community longer than most. Beginning as DJ in the late 80s, playing Hip Hop, House and Freestyle, Marcos started going to Raves in the early nineties and began working as a buyer for various record stores along with working for one of the few electronic music distributors of the day.
Curator of ‘On The Prowl’ and the ‘Party Breaks’ sub-label, along with Hamilton Dance Records and being one half of production duo ‘Runaway’ alongside partner and (Animals Dancing alumni) Jacques Renault, Marcos has spent the past decade sharpening his sound over a diverse back catalogue, and in addition to a long list of Runaway releases and remixes, Marcos’ solo work covers the gamut of left-field Disco, Deep House, and Techno.
While his own ’24 Hour Flight’ EP showcased a hypnotic full bodied Dub Techno & House aesthetic, his just-released ‘False Memories’ LP (also on the coveted L.I.E.S label) sees the more experimental side of Cabral’s sound come intuitively through the machines, blending Industrial, Noise and Techno elements through delay and saturation in a 14 track compilation from various cassette tape recordings spanning the years of 1998-2000.
As a DJ, Cabral brings together this large range of influencing sounds that a certain basement will surely be conducive to ;).
