August 31st New Guernica are proud to welcome hip-house legend TYREE COOPER (Dance Mania, D.J International Records, Chicago) for the first time in Australia.
Growing up on the streets of Chicago’s South Side Tyree Cooper discovered his love for the soul music of the 60ies. Cooper's discography is impressive, from his first 12” the underground Chicago classic “I Fear The Night“ (with female vocalist 'Chic'), to other hits such as “Acid Over“ (1987), “Turn Up The Bass“ (1988),“'Let's Get Hyped“ (feat. Kool Rock Steady, 1989), “Let the Music Take Control“(1989) and “Hardcore Hip House“ (1989). Tyree’s records on Chicago staples Dance Mania and D.J. International formed the basis of classic Chicago House and Hip-house.
Tyree Cooper continues to make waves in house music today, with recent repressing of ‘Nuthin' Wrong’ on Mojuba becoming a modern day classic, as well as collaborations with Tom Trago, Marc Romboy and releases on Clone, We Play House, his own label Supa Dupa Records, amongst an impressive list of others.
