Housepitality Feat. Eric Cloutier, Michael Perry & DJ Sep

  • ( ( ( ( (H O U S E P I T A L I T Y) ) ) ) ) is proud to host (again) an artist whose reputation is built on the strength of his meticulous DJ skills & amazing taste, and an opening set by one of SF's most talented hidden gems: ::ERIC CLOUTIER (The Bunker | NYC/Berlin):: ::MICHAEL PERRY (Fedora, Play | San Francisco):: Groove Lounge: ::DJ SEP (Dub Mission | San Francisco):: They say that things come in threes... good things, bad things, and amazingly great things... Eric Cloutier's sets at Housepitality fall into the "good" and "amazingly great" categories. Last year's set with Eric, Michael Perry, and Christina Chatfield was one of our most amazing and successful nights ever... it was only a matter of time before we could host Eric again. For those who don't know, Eric is one of America's biggest techno and house success stories. Equally at home playing (the deepest) house, the dubbiest techno, and all flavors in between, Eric has managed success in the underground house and techno world without releasing a single production. This is meaningful because the release of tracks on legitimate labels has tended to be a gatekeeper between success and obscurity... bu relentless crate-digging and a tireless devotion to the art of the DJ set has led Eric into a reputation as one of the most prized DJs to come out of the USA... (and of course lead him to move to Berlin... alas!). But he's back, and we've booked him, and he's gonna make us shake it. Third time will be a charm (as were the first, and second times). Mike Perry's a solid and underappreciated member of SF's techno underground. Both by himself, and playing with partner Matt Wilder as Fedora, Mike's devotion to techno as an art form came along with his upbringing in Detroit, city of techno, and has followed him to San Francisco, eventually leading him to quit his nice, stable, and fruitful tech job, and follow his passion for electronic music all over the globe, as well as here in SF. Mike's opener for Cloutier's last set was one of the best opening sets we've had, and we're stoked to give him this 3 hour opening slot and hear what he's got in mind for us. Arrive early. Finally, in the back room, we offer something slightly different: DJ Sep. DJ Sep is the mind and body behind the Dub Mission Sunday party at the Elbo Room in SF. It's the longest-running dub, dancehall, roots reggae, and dubstep party in SF, and we're honored to have this taste of a different flavor for our Groove Lounge back room. We love to share our night with talent from all over our city, and from all over the musical map... and this skilled selectah will be bringing new sounds, new sights, and new folks to our little party... please welcome DJ Sep. 11-2. His sets have a sprawling depth and sophistication that fuses the brooding intensity of tripping techno with the mechanic funk of contemporary house. Cloutier started spinning records in 1996, rapidly involving himself in Detroit's competitive local scene, holding down residencies at The Necto and prominent afterhours spot The Works. This led to a job booking Oslo, where he brought the likes of Richie Hawtin, Luciano and Michael Mayer to town, as well as handing out residencies to local legends Three Chairs and Stacey Pullen. In 2006, Cloutier made the jump to New York and quickly established himself, earning a residency at the premiere monthly techno night The Bunker and mid-week soiree Den of Thieves. He's also begun his own night, Down, in which he often stretches out to play lengthy sets that showcase his range, effortlessly threading together deeper shades of house and dub-infused techno. Word has been spreading too: 2009 saw Cloutier recording two mixes for the mnml ssgs podcast series, beginning to work in the studio for the first time on his own material, making his European DJing debut and getting tapped to play at Japan's renowned Labyrinth Festival. That latter honor may be the most telling of all: Only a select few are asked to spin at Labyrinth. (It's the provenance of studious selectors like Daniel Bell, Donato Dozzy and Peter Van Hoesen.) To not only spin in their company, but to have ably held his own should tell you all you need to know about Eric Cloutier: He's a DJ for whom quality—above all else—is the watchword. https://soundcloud.com/cloutier http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/ericcloutier https://twitter.com/losing_control http://www.discogs.com/user/element8 ***************************************************** Michael Perry Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Michael was given a front row seat to the world of electronic music at a young age. Having worked in several of the area record stores, including the now defunct yet highly influential Record Time, Michael was lucky enough to have access to the newest and freshest records coming out from the talented artists that Detroit is known for as well as from artists around the world. Cutting his teeth in the Detroit underground, Michael played around Detroit until 2003 when the desire for new surroundings took him west. Upon arriving in San Francisco, Michael quickly got involved in the San Francisco underground with Nice, a monthly party that along with Jason Kendig, Nikita and Christian Bloch brought a minimal techno style to the city. Michael then played random one off events until he formed Fedora with fellow Midwestern transplant Matt Wilder. Together the two have thrown some of the most notorious parties at the legendary underground space, the com# while delivering their distinctive style of jazzy, jacking deep house. In 2009, Michael then joined White Label, a weekly happy hour that together with Michael Kelly brought helped kick off the weekend for San Francisco featuring the newest house and techno. Now Michael finds himself a resident of Listed Productions newest monthly project, Play, held the first Saturday of the month at the notorious End Up. Currently immersed in the studio, look for new things to come soon. https://soundcloud.com/mperry http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/michaelperry https://www.facebook.com/djmichaelperry ***************************************************** DJ Sep A DJ/producer/promoter based in the Bay Area, DJ SEP is the founder and main resident DJ behind DUB MISSION.
