Bloc: Clark / Surgeon / Billy Nasty / Truss Sold Out

  • The artist formerly known as Chris is a versatile and somewhat restless creature. The first time he was on Bloc’s main stage was with a live drumkit, touring the arrhythmic warped abstraction of his Body Riddle album, and wearing a beard. Fast forward to 2009 when he headlined Overkill’s stage, and we saw a full electronic onslaught alongside Modeselektor and Tim Exile. Wrongfooting all but the most foresighted commentariat with his plucky, wickermanesque, ‘Iradelphic’ last year. We have it on good authority that he’ll be letting it all bang out with a live modular-synth powered techno session as he takes control of the main room at Autumn Street, and are suitably titillated. Making techno work for everybody, UK figurehead Surgeon is coming back to Autumn Street and back to Bloc. If you’re on this site and reading this, then, for you Anthony Child’s reputation will precede him - but you might not know that we regard Surgeon as one of the artists that has made Bloc what it is, and we hail his return. An acid house original, a techno trooper, a humble legend… Billy Nasty is a cut to the old days. Reared on all-night warehouse parties, schooled on 12″ imports and home-pressed white labels in the acid house university that was the local record shop and trained to perfection on two Technics 1210s and a mixer, Billy Nasty has been there, done it, shaped it, smashed it and then some. Upstart Truss will be rounding off a midwinter Bloc techno workout. Industrial, uncompromising and making waves under his MPIA3, Truss will be dominating Bloc airwaves for some time to come.
