October sees us once again bringing Donky Pitch up to Aberdeen following last year’s takeover at Snafu, to celebrate the launch of The Range’s debut LP for the Brighton label. For this event, we’re delighted to be joined by Providence, Rhode Island’s James Hinton AKA The Range on his first ever Scottish date, and the only one on his UK/EU tour. Following his debut release ‘The Big Dip’ on Brooklyn label Astro Nautico, Donky snapped up The Range for 2 further EPs, ‘disk’ and ‘Seneca’ during which time the New York native prepared his first full-length release.

The Range’s playfully brilliant take on bass music is baffling but beautiful - an excitable mix of snaps, crackles and pops coupled with surging, gauzy beats, unexpected footwork tempos and delicately sparse piano keys. Making his mark on the music scene through inventive Mysktial samples, breathy high pitched words that race through rumbling footwork rhythms, quirky percussion and effects ranging from shiny squeaks to huffing fumes of digitized beats, and what’s most notable is Hinton’s ability to conceptualize it all. His music has attracted high praise from the likes of Pitchfork & XLR8R and he recently appeared on Boiler Room in New York City.
James is joined on tour by Donky Pitch co-owner Grinel, whose DJ sets always rank up with some of our favourites here at Tuff Wax. The gruesome twosome are also joined for one night only by two of Aberdeen’s most talented artists. Zubuntu’s debut Tuff Wax release ‘High Skool/Ruff Stuff’ was met with massive acclaim and his live sets are quickly gaining an impressive reputation locally. Grobbie’s first appearance on wax came in the form of his bold & blue 7” ‘Aberdeen Truth Vol.3’ and he has also handled remix duty for The Range himself, a release forthcoming in late 2013 on Tuff Wax.
