Belgium Booms is a week long series of parties, gigs, clubnights and film screenings celebrating the past, present and future of Belgian electronic music, from the pioneering EBM and New Beat artists of the 80s through to today’s up and coming house, electro, techno and experimental acts.
Kicking off the week Belgium Booms heads to South London and Corsica Studios and for the first time ever brings 2 of the original pioneers of New Beat and Belgian Techno to the UK, Dikke Ronny, resident DJ at the Ancienne Belgique club and the man credited with first developing the New Beat style and Eric Powa B, resident DJ at the legendary Boccaccio nightclub. Rightly regarded as two of the best, and most influential clubs, in European dance music history this is a unique opportunity to experience their sound again in 2013.
Joining these Belgian legends we have the UK’s own Trevor Jackson. Not only responsible for the iconic artwork for Belgian stars Soulwax’s ‘Any Minute Now’ album, Trevor has long championed the New Beat and EBM sound, his recent ‘Metal Dance’ compilations on Strut perfectly capturing the spirit of clubs such as Ancienne Belgique in their prime and tonight Trevor will play a special 'Metal Dance' set.
Bridging the gap between Belgium's past and present we have The Glimmers. With more than 20 officially released DJ mixes to their name including contributions to both Fabric and !K7’s DJ Kicks series the Glimmers were one of the main forces behind the '00s revival of the Belgian music scene championing an anything goes spirit that mixed and matched everything from house and techno to rock n roll, disco and hip-hop.
Joining them we have some of Belgium’s most exciting new talents including in-demand disco and techno producer GEOFFROY MUGWUMP, whose releases on labels such as Kompakt, Throne of Blood and cult balearic imprint International Feel have all been championed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall; former Mustang member and current blog favourite ATTAR! and Moonlight Matters whose remixes of everyone from Adele to Lana Del Rey via Metronomy and Hercules & Love Affair have made him a regular at clubs such as Fabric.
