Rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated, so we thought we’d throw a birthday party to celebrate our continued existence, even though we are now living under the sea.
To help make our Birthday party special, we’ve enlisted one of the most innovative and uncompromising producers we could think of: Aardvarck.
Aardvarck has been DJing for over 30 years across the globe, and has played Panorama Bar, Sonar, DEMF, Exit and 5 Days of Techno, among many others, as well as gigs in Japan, Cuba, Europe and Asia. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke selected him in his instalment of ‘Dead Air Office Chart’. He began releasing his own productions in 1993 on legendary Dutch techno label Djax. Moving from the southern town of Den Bosch to Amsterdam in 1996, he became heavily involved in that city’s beat scene, starting the Rednose Distrikt label and releasing on Delsin, Kindred Spirits and Rushhour. His output has been regular and varied, ranging from house and techno to downtempo and lately more uptempo syncopated beats. His more recent output has been dubbed Nosestep and Pigstyle, but basically Aardvarck has always been about feeling the music, not following genres or trends. He’ll be treating us to live and DJ sets.
Our new venue is a basement under the Imperial Hotel, which will be transformed into an underwater dance grotto for the night. We will be dancing with the fishes, with an aquatic soundtrack provided by the Racketeers Four – Jimmi “The Tuna” James, Ken “Aquaman” Cloud, Simon “The Octopus” Caldwell and Zootie “The Barracuda”.
