Delve Deeper & Secret Soirée Joint Birthday

  • On Saturday the 23rd November, Delve Deeper will join with Secret Soirée host a joint birthday celebration at their base, The Fez Club. Delve Deeper will be hitting its 6th year with Secret Soiree celebrating its first year milestone. Between them, they have brought to Sheffield DJs including Jimpster, James Johnston, Shur-I-Kan, Ethyl, Sebastian Davidson, BLM, Tristan Da Cunha and Stretford Dogs club to name but a few. For the birthday, two guest DJs have been carefully selected. Both are a perfect example of the music both events portray deep, underground house. Milton Jackson For those that came to the Delve Deeper event with Milton Jackson last year, you will know how good a DJ he is. So much so that we all agreed we had to bring him back. A little more about him. Milton Jackson got the house music bug aged 18 after receiving an MPC2000 for his birthday. A year later he released his first EP on Stevie Soles Tronicsole, picked up by Roger Sanchez for a Mixmag compilation. 3 more EPs for Tronicsole followed and an album for Glasgow Underground entitled The Bionic Boy in 2001. Bionic Boy received plaudits from Tom Middleton, Laurent Garnier and Ashley Beadle. Jockey Slut called Milton the most exciting thing to happen to UK house music and awarded the album 5 stars. Bionic Boy spawned some memorable singles; Sunlight even got a review in NME. Dimensional tickled Romanthonys feathers so much he asked to remix it. After the success of Bionic Boy and the accompanying live tour, EPs were completed for the likes of Black Vinyl, Bear Trax (Miltons own label) and Omid 16Bs Alola. Milton even worked with a young Mylo on their Pretty Boys project. In 2006 a new relationship was formed with Jimpsters Freerange and saw collaborations with fellow deep house don Shur-i-kan. The 2 released I Want It and Special Powers (BBC Dance single of the month) to great acclaim. From there EPs followed for the likes of Tsuba, Crack & Speed, Silver Network and Icon. 2007 saw the release of Cycles, an epic melodic track. It was voted by 200,000 Buzzin Fly radio listeners as one of their top 10 tracks of the year. A remix for Groove Armadas Andy Cato started to cement Miltons reputation as someone who consistently provides interesting, melodic, spaced out deep house. From here Milton started engaged in a frantic DJ schedule worldwide. Venues and countries visited included Womb Tokyo, Goa Madrid, 360 Dubai, Cocoon Frankfurt, Tresor Berlin, Pacha Ibiza, Warehouse 702 Tokyo, Anzu Brazil, Barzilay Tel Aviv and a very special live set at the Sonar Festival in front of 7000 people. In 2008 Miltons most successful single to date Ghosts In My Machines was released. A firm Miami WMC favourite this track was released as part of Freeranges 100th release. The biggest selling deep house track of 2008 on Beatport, it went on to win a Beatport Award for Best Deep House Track with Milton coming 3rd in the producer contest behind Jimpster and Dennis Ferrer - heady company indeed. With the success of Ghosts In My Machines Freerange were keen for Milton to complete an album. Milton went on to record arguably his most seminal work to date: Crash. Uncut Magazine called Crash 'Darkly sophisticated, tech-edged deep house, adding judicious samples of exotica and sci-fi soundtracks to laudably fresh, clean and moodily funky effect. DJ Magazine said Crash 'Reinvents house music for the future' / 'where electronic house melts into the darker machinations of the techno spectrum... 2009 was topped off spectacularly with a win in the DJ Awards in the Deep House category. Milton picked up his award at Pacha in Ibiza alongside the likes of Pete Tong, Luciano and Sven Vath. Recently Milton has remixed Recloose for Carl Craigs Planet E and turned in stellar mixes for Z Records, 8 Bit and Jef Ks hit In My System on Silver Network. A new collaboration with Munichs SHOW-B Pattern Select saw the pair release a critically acclaimed EP on Delusions Of Grandeur and a remix for Huxleys imprint Saints & Sonnets Flori (Secretsundaze/Black Key Records) Jamie Mark Edward Taylor, or Flori when the creative mood takes him, enjoys nothing more than listening to, playing and making music that doesn't make use of a noisy guitar. He's also not too fond of 808 drum samples. This can get him into trouble when in the company of other house heads but shows his willingness to test the boundaries of his chosen genre - with often unexpected results. Flori's musical know how - gained through a life on the front line - enables him to translate his soul, jazz and funk influences into forward thinking House music for the new decade. It's difficult to sum up in short Flori's sound but the fact that he enjoys Bluey's horn arrangements, Kerri's basslines, Agnés's beats, the way Kenny uses samples and when Cole's tracks switch from 2-step to 4/4, should give you a rough idea. In other terms, Flori strives to unfurl a highly organic dance floor experience that can change in the blink of an eye yet retain a cohesiveness that belies his 23 years. With such a vast selection of music at his disposal, Flori is able to juxtapose four to the floor beats both old and new to put his own unique stamp on the genre. Jamie (this was before the transition) has been a resident at and co-promoter of one of the UK's most successful modern soul nights Soul Underground for 8 years. It's a family run night that has provided Jamie with the chance to cut his teeth as a DJ and explore many different musical avenues. With an audience as comfortable on the floor with down-tempo soul and gospel as they are with nu-jazz and house music, Jamie gained a deep understanding of how to move a floor. The success of the party led to a string of bookings and his own internet radio show, The Underground House Sessions which ran live every week for over two years. Flori's first release, in tandem with Ethyl has already sent pulses racing. Gaining support from deep and soulful heads alike, the Trimley EP on Freerange represents the first of a host of releases to be sprung in coming months, including 12's on the acclaimed Quintessentials and Detroit imprint House Is The Cure. At present, Flori can usually be found working on music in his cellar or at Ethyl's house - often flicking through hi-hat samples or drinking gin. Finalising the line-up will be the founders and resident DJs of each respected night, Liam C, Jenny Fu, Kris Aldworth and Warren Watson. The event will be running from 11pm until 6am with reduced early bird tickets available via Skiddle.A pre-party will be taking place at The Lions Lair from 8-1 where Dan Metcalfe, Carl Dean & Nic James, Duncan Allott, Louis Clarke and Shaun Hayes will be holding it down!
