DVWLX [Black Butter, Symbols Recordings]
Black Butter is the label that has come out of nowhere to stride dominantly across the current musical landscape in the UK, and DVWLX is testimony once more to their 1st class A+R skills.
His debut EP on the label – ’Not Another Love Song’ – achieved critical and popular acclaim, with its original and moody take on the House / Techno crossover sound, garnering spins from tastemakers such as Mistajam and Rob Da Bank, and weaving its way into the sets of discerning DJs from Southampton to South Africa to San Francisco.
A Northern lad, you can hear echoes of its industrial past through the brooding nature of his work; and his productions manage to poise themselves perfectly on the axis between simplicity and groove on the one hand, complexity and intricacy on the other; – a difficult trick, yet one already mastered by this young talent.
As well as upcoming releases on Black Butter and a remix for Sony, he has just released on Kastle’s label “Symbols”; and he has been asked not once but twice to deliver a mix for Mistajam’s esteemed “Daily Dose” mix for 1Xtra.
A slew of gigs at home and abroad including at Fabric’s 14th Birthday, as well as working on a proper live set, the future is bright for DVWLX – especially as he is also a phenomenal DJ talent, having honed his skills as a vinyl DJ for years at respected nights such as HIT&RUN.
