Strange Signals presents Amir Alexander

  • Strange Signals is very proud to be hosting Amir Alexander in his very first tour to Australia, and we're super excited. Amir Alexander came to our attention only a year or two ago after we had to find out what the hell was coming through the speakers at one of Sydney's better respected nights of house and techno. We googled him, bought his music, downloaded his mixes and decided to bring him over here. And now he's coming. He will tear the place apart, guaranteed. So you should be excited too. How do you describe Amir Alexander's sound? We could say deep, tough house, and the gritty raw techno, spun with the fearless to-the-wind artistry of a DJ like Derrick May or Derrick Carter, but it's maybe best summed up when someone asked Strange Signals. "Who's this?" as we played them a one-two punch of his tracks Catacombs and Gutter Flex. "Amir Alexander" we said. "Amir Who?" they said. "Amir Alexander" we said. Pause. "Fucking Dope" was the response. We both nodded our heads in agreement. Fucking dope. Amir has built an impressive resume having DJ'd around hometown Chicago and rest of the world for over 20 years. Crafting musically diverse sets brushed with the sound, culture and traditions of Chicago, Detroit and New York, his star is clearly on the rise. playing the world's biggest dancefloors, clubs and festivals. Berghain/Panorama Bar? Yeah. Secretsundaze? Fuse? Robert Johnson? Boiler Room? Public Assembly? NYC lofts? You betcha. He started producing his own records after hooking up with Hakim Murphy and G.Marcell, and that led to a stellar run of releases on labels such as Argot, Plan B and Deep Vibes, and then on his own Vanguard Sound imprint. "I strike the perfect balance between the conscious and unconscious. Once i’m in that place, art happens." Support on the night is Magda Bytnerowicz (4our, GoodGod Congress) and Simon Caldwell (Mad Racket). Two of the first names to roll off the tongue when talking deep house and techno, and we think they are the absolute perfect match for the night. We've been working on getting both of them on the same bill for a while now, so expect this to be just a little bit special. So join us as Strange Signals farewells 2013 with a return to the craziness of Goodgod. Those that remember the (literally) searing heat Fred P brought to that room for Strange Signals in 2011, will already be there. For those that weren't, take a chance on us, come dance… 11pm, Saturday 14th December 2013 Goodgod SmallClub $20/$25/$30 Boiler Room Set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_F2KwwGPvA ACN Podcast: https://soundcloud.com/the-secret-agency/amir-alexander-acn-podcast-002 Sound of Thought Podcast: https://soundcloud.com/soundofthought/sound-of-thought-07-amir-alexander
