King Britt is a producer, composer, performer and curator of electronic music. As a producer/composer, he fuses his knowledge of music history from many cultures and genres with electronic compositions, which redefine and re-contextualizes the past into the present. He has remixed and produced many diverse artists including Miles Davis, Curtis Mayfield, Radiohead, and Chic. As a performer, King is best known as one of the top globetrotting DJ’s in the world. From cutting his craft as the wax poetic for the Grammy Award winning Digable Planets to traveling solo to different cities and countries, bringing cultures together through his eclectic taste and live improvised dance/experimental sets. Combined, his work has penetrated the pop culture divide: appearing in HBO shows, scoring commercials for global brands like Rolex, gracing the stage at festivals like Glastonbury, and curating events for distinguished art institutes, centers, and museums.
In the realm of dance music, there are few producers that thrive on blurring the boundary between eclectic experimenter and populist ass-shaker as much as Q-Burns Abstract Message. Based in Orlando since the early-’90s, the former record shop owner and college radio DJ has spent the past two decades developing a sound that is obsessively devoted to the funk. His animated, vodka-soaked DJ sets have won audiences for the well-traveled Donaldson from San Francisco to (literally) Siberia. However, it’s his songwriting focus that demands attention, releasing three full-length albums via the respected electronic label Astralwerks and numerous singles for house-centric imprints such as Brique Rouge, Slip N’ Slide, NRK and of course, Eighth Dimension.
