Together Scala Launch Party

  • We’re Back... baby. Turnmills’ flagship Saturday night event and most consistently busy party of the past decade returns to clubland this summer for a brand new residency. TOGETHER will be re-launching on Saturday 28th June at SCALA, Kings Cross with the same serious take on new music and the same serious take on being silly!! We’re bringing with us all the best bits from Turnmills and embracing our new venue to the fullest to create a new phat chunk of dancefloor happiness. The last ever Together party at Turnmills (22 March) was fittingly MASSIVE and a highly emotional affair. Teaming up with Heavenly Social for one final rave, we were honoured to have BOTH The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim on deck duty to give the club the proper send off it deserved. Since then, Together has hot-footed it to Austria where we got on the Piste at Snowbombing and hosted one of the week’s best parties with residents Justin Robertson, Anil Chawla and Streetlife DJs getting the 80s-wearing-crowd into a spin. We’ve since been invited by LOVEBOX to co-host a Together party with ‘em out in Ibiza this summer (4th July @ Eden) as part of their new residency with Pete Tong’s Wonderland event... and best of all, the gang at GET LOADED IN THE PARK have given us our VERY OWN TENT (yes really!) at their amazing festival on Clapham Common (Sunday 24th August) featuring Gossip, Soulwax, The Presets, Mylo, Boys Noize, Streetlife DJs and Uniondjs (all of whom have played Together @ Turnmills over the past 2 years). Very exciting times ahead indeed. A little closer to home we’ve been secretly plotting our move since the turn of the year and we’ve been exploring all sorts of venues; grand and luxurious, small and quirky, smelly and sexy. But in the SCALA, we feel we’ve found the perfect new home. Like Turnmills, it’s a multi-roomed, labyrinth-style venue (getting lost is fun right?), with its own unique character and a killer new soundsystem. It’s just up the road from our famous former venue and its bang slap in the middle of Kings Cross / St Pancras International... which is handy seeing as we’ve got four Frenchmen hopping on the Eurostar for our unmissable debut event (more of that in a mo!) Continuing our love-affair with fancy dress and all things silly, for the SCALA launch party TOGETHER PRESENTS “THE ANIMAL RAVE”. If you haven’t already guessed, the theme is of course ‘Animal fancy dress’... so we’re expecting a mega turn out of zoo favourites, sealife creatures, household pets, safari wildlife, mammals, lizards, bugs, birds, rodents, dinosaurs and Pat Butcher lookalikes!! If you’re in need of some gear then head to fancy dress specialists Escapades (150 Camden High Street, London NW1 0NE, Tel: 020 7485 7384) or Madworld (69/85 Tabernacle Street, London EC2A 4BA, Tel: 020 7253 1003) and quote ‘TOGETHER’ and you’ll get 10% off your outfit!! Which will deffo come in handy, cos on the night Together will be hosting a special ‘Noah’s Ark Procession’, inviting the Together faithful to join us in a ‘two by two’ congo around the club (!), plus the first 200 people through the door will each receive their very own Free Animal Mask!! Other oddities include the return of two of Together’s favourite past-times... FREE FACE PAINTING (perfect to bring out the Tiger in you!) and FREE HAIRCUTS (is your Lion’s mane in need of a trim?) – courtesy of Spitalfields’ cool cutters Pimps & Pinups (www.pimpsandpinups.com). On a musical tip, Together is bracing itself for a mini-French invasion with Ed Banger leader Busy P aka Pedro Winter and fellow label party starter DJ Mehdi crossing the pond together with Institubes Records’ Surkin and the latest Parisan prince Yuksek. The nu-wave noize coming from France has been taking over the world for a few years now - heck, even Kanye West is jumping on the band-wagon with his Daft Punk samples... and in Busy P you have the man mainly responsible for this new musical movement. As Daft Punk’s manager and Ed Bangers’ head-honcho, he’s helped shape the careers of so many of today’s hottest new things – from the robot rockers themselves, to Justice, SebastiAn, Uffie, Kavinsky and Mehdi. His own productions are coming on strong right now too, check out ‘Chop Suey’ for starters, and as a DJ he’s worshipped as a god by the Ed Banger faithful the world over. Last seen at Together in July 2006 with Justice in T2 at Turnmills, we can’t wait to have him back for our special opener!! DJ Mehdi can expect similar adulation from the appreciative crowd as he makes his Together debut and brings his own ruckus to the decks. Brought up on a hip-hop diet, Mehdi’s 2006 album ‘Lucky Boy’ was one of the year’s best and we’ve been after him ever since. At last, we’ve got our man... so let the carnage begin!! Surkin is another DJ/Producer high on our hit-list. Making his name alongside Together fave Para One via his releases on Institubes Records – another ball-achingly hip label from France, Surkin is another big talent to watch out for. His latest joint ‘Next of Kin’ is his biggest release to date and with remixes for the like of Boys Noize, Chromeo, Justice, Klaxons and our next guest Yuksek... you could say he’s rather in demand right now!! As is our 4th Frenchman Yuksek who made his Together debut with some aplomb in January 2008 and is someone we’re tipping for greatness! As a classically trained musician, Yuksek is part of the next wave of French artists set to dominate clubland this year and his ‘Composer’ EP remains a big fave with all the heavyweight jocks. Oh la la. Next up is Dusty Kid, a relatively new name on the scene, but as of 2007 one of the most exciting breakthrough artists for some time. Southern Fried Records quickly picked up on this and released his monster tune ‘The Cat / The Kitten’ to global acclaim. He’ll be performing live on the night – so expect everything from eclectic techno to 80s synths, via acid house and minimal! Bring it on. Supporting Dusty Kid and the other DJs will be our mighty Together residents – Justin Robertson, Anil Chawla and Streetlife DJs. All three DJs blew the roof off at Snowbombing and the handsome threesome remain key players to our on-going success. Justin needs no introduction of course; he’s a proper DJ legend. Both Anil and the Streetlife chaps meanwhile are creating their own legacies in the dance world, with Anil’s debut artist album coming out on Global Underground after the summer and Streetlife DJs now signed to Kitsune Records and having produced one of the best Essential Mixes ever. Anil and Justin bring on the acid in the Dragons Den (main room), with Streetlife DJs hosting their infamous Streetlife Sessions upstairs in The Birdcage! Rising stars Uniondjs swing by too ahead of their set for us at Get Loaded in the Park later on in the summer. Our third and final boudoir of beats (The Viper Room) is hosted by London taste makers dollop, who can be found hosting all night tear ups at the Old Blue Last and Stealth, Nottingham. Together has teamed up with the dollop dudes for a special one-off session and the guys have drafted in man-of-the-moment Boy 8-Bit for a set of heavy bleep busting bangers!! The Body Clap star has remixed everyone from Armand Van Helden to X-Press 2, Chromeo, Lethal Bizzle and Mika (!) and shows no signs of letting up either. DJ support comes from D'Lex, Me Me Me, Genki and dollop djs. And that’s a rap, phew! Together will be returning to the SCALA on Saturday 25th October for our infamous Halloween Special with some very special guests lined up to scare the living shit out of you!! You’ve been warned...
