Soundcrash favourites The Herbaliser are back with their full live show! This time with support from Fingathing on the 9th May 2014 at the Garage. Expect psychedelic, beat-laden, post-hip-hop audio. Soulful and resolute with funk groove like no other!
It all began back in the early ninety’s with duo Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba, both avid vinyl collectors from London. Their impressive discography of 11 albums ranges from 1995’s ‘Remedies’ on Ninja Tune to 2012’s ‘There Were Seven’ which was released on their own label, Department H. The past decade and a half has seen collaborations with MF DOOM, Jean Grae, Roots Manuva and Phi Life Cypher to name just a few, plus mixes for the Fabric Live mix Series and the Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel series.
The Herbaliser expanded their set up to a full 10 piece band and began touring the globe, and have been winning over festival audiences far and wide for over a decade, Their fascinating ability to create timeless soul records one minute, then to delve deep into the dark, grittiness of Jazz and funk the next is not a skill that should be overlooked!
Fingathing, hailing from Manchester, are in the supporting slot. This unlikely duo consisting of Bass player Sneaky, trained in classical Jazz and DJ Turntablist Peter Parker who in 1997 came 3rd in the DMC championships, is a partnership of the highest calibre of artists in their respective fields. The pair performed along side each with the Rae & Christian live backing band before joining forces to form Fingathing in 2000. Their sound is Instrumental hip-hop at its best, mixing breaks with classical bass strings which effortlessly marries forming a soundtrack that is truly their own.
Fragmented samples, dirty drum breaks and subterranean bass lines are on the menu for this show, two of the UK’s most unique and exciting live acts under one roof, grab yourself a ticket before its too late!
