In August of 2011 we opened the doors of Chukkachurri to our friends and anybody seeking a low-key, unpretentious atmosphere with a consistent, solid music policy. Against all odds (small dancefloor/sound restrictions/culturally diverse neighbourhood) we could never have imagined it to take shape as it did and become so loved by so many of you ...
Upon opening (and after diverging a little with a few rock/indie and 80’s nights and functions) we resolved to a strictly 4/4 house & techno formula – set in place by our regular Friday night known as ‘Substance’. Some amazing conceptual promoter nights began to fill the Saturdays and within a few months those walls could tell more stories than a news presenter on speed !
Some great international acts graced the decks (namely The Wildkats, Matt Fear, Alex Smoke, Siopis, Ali B, JonJon, Sammy Dee & more) during Chukka’s heyday – as well as most of SA’s top house & techno djs. The glass dancefloor with-held some of the most committed clubbers and their vigorous fist-pumping rituals, and the sound-system pushed to its limits week after week.
And then there’s that back balcony – where friends are made and conversations convoluted with all kinds of social oral fodder ! A free space to be who you are, and be greeted by Daniel the owner or served by’ T’ and Antonio. Their energy is palpable and contributed massively in making this your home for the last 2.5 years – our home of house music !!
For this – The Final Lap – we have chosen a lineup of djs that represent some of our most memorable & loyal conceptual nights. A revered bunch and a guarantee of one solid evening of music.
We invite everybody to join in for the final lap at Chukkachurri ... bring anything you feel will add to the atmosphere.
