Industry of Machines presents D'marc Cantu, Polar Inertia & Willie Burns

  • Industry of Machines Presents: D'Marc Cantu LIVE PA (Nation | Sequencias | Creme | Detroit) Polar Inertia US DEBUT, LIVE PA (Dement3d Records | Paris) Willie Burns (WT Records| Sequencias | L.I.E.S. | BK) JM De Frias (Sequencias | NYC) FREE b4 MIDNIGHT | $10 AFTER As Industry of Machines nears the one-year mark, we're pleased to announce one of the heaviest lineups yet, as well as an accompanying shift to a Saturday slot for a showcase for New York's well-tipped Sequencias label. The home of releases from Traxx, D'Marc Cantu, Hieroglyphic Being, Willie Burns, Nick Lapien, and label head JM de Frias, to name a few, it has been quietly making a name for itself since 2011 as well as accumulating quite a star-studded back catalogue. De Frias' true underground tactics meant that word may not have spread as qucikly as it could have, but few young labels set down as deep of roots as he has over slightly less than 10 releases, and as press rumblings continue he looks well-prepared for future success. Back by popular demand, D'Marc Cantu is the obvious banner name on this bill, and his widely-dispersed trail of recordings has appeared on many prestigious house and techno labels over the past few years, including but not limited to M>O>S, Crème Organization, Nation, Forbidden Planet, and of course Sequencias. It's no accident the hyperactive producer has seen such strong support though: he shows no tolerance for quality lapses, a strong stylistic diversity, and at the highest moments an impressively twisted sound that puts him in the company of few of his peers. For this night, Cantu has promised us an entirely new live set of uptempo brain damage, so brace yourselves for what is sure to be a wild ride. The main subject of interest of Paris' Dement3d label, Polar Inertia is a mystery whose roots in the City of Light have yet to be uncovered. Boasting a textured, sophisticated but unflinchingly hard techno sound, his music makes a good fit for the Concrete-linked Dement3d label, but to-date there remains little else known. The IofM street team may have heard a few clues concerning his true identity while discovering the techno transformation Paris has undergone this past summer, but translating these stories from the French is tricky, and we would rather not spread rumors internationally. This will be his debut live performance in the US, and it is sure to make a very special night all the more intense. Willie Burns finally received belated notice also over the last two years or so, but since he's not a mystery like certain names on this lineup a little easy research will yield a back catalogue stretching to 2005 on Legowelt's Strange Fruit label as well as many aliases under which Will releases harder-to-classify music than the house he is most famous for, including recent drops as Black Deer or Speculator. His W.T. records itself has quite an impressive history for talent scouting, especially evidenced on recent drops. He's become a bit of a regular/institution recently at Bossa Nova Civic Club, and we're happy to have him back at IofM for the second time to kick things off for the night. Intinally appearing with a solo track on Levon Vincent's fabric mix, JM de Frias is a young house DJ and producer who has kept a low profile for some years now while he waits for his time to strike. Key to his modus operandi is his impeccably curated Sequencias imprint, which has seen many well regarded names make appearances over its short history and whose discography shows an acutely prescient eye for upcoming underground talent. The two recent drops from Nick Lapien (under different aliases) certainly turned heads, and the label head chose his moment to release 'I Have No Eyes But I Must See', his own vinyl debut featuring a collaboration with Cantu as well as solo efforts from each artist. He will be making his debut at BNCC this evening, and music fans of all stripes can expect to hear his deep tastes and skillful DJing in full effect.
