At last, the long-awaited return of MARK SEVEN – a DJ whose last Melbourne visit (back in 2010) is spoken of with reverence.
A veteran/survivor of the dawn of acid house in the UK, Mark now spends his time dealing premium vinyl to a who’s who of the world’s most discerning DJs from his online store www.juswax.com and playing premium vinyl at parties such as London’s Horse Meat Disco, Nightflight in Dublin, Manchester’s Cutloose and Croatia’s Garden Festival.
A perfectionist who keeps his head well down in this over-saturated era, Mark is not given to self-promotion. Preferring to keep his work ‘live’, Mark’s recorded sets are still few and far between. Those that have made it out have caused a huge stir online, opening eyes and ears around the world.
Mark’s near-legendary suite of triple-pack mixes A Salute to the Men of Vauxhall and Salute 2 - Reach Out and Touch Your Dream are nothing short of extraordinary; each one a three-hour love letter to the sounds of the US underground gay discos of the 70s and 80s and a tribute to the DJs who commanded them.
Since his last visit, Mark has set up two new record labels: Parkwest and Parkway, which between them cover boogie, deep house, garage and slo-mo Balearic business. Featuring Mark’s own productions complemented by remixes from like minded souls, both labels have received widespread acclaim.
Mark’s DJ sets are the work of a craftsman: steeped in knowledge and experience but always instinctive, visceral and never, ever, ever predictable. For us, this is about as close to the vibe, freedom and energy of late 80s US dance floors as we’ll ever get.
Join DJs TAMAS JONES, RANSOM, BISH and R KELLY on the rooftop of Vesta House, 1 Carson Place (off Little Collins) for a pre-party loosener from 5pm-9pm. Then the party moves to Boney, with Mark on stage at 10pm sharp.
