  • DEADBEAT (Berlin) BLKRTZ / Wagon Repair / Echocord Bryan Kasenic (Brooklyn) The Bunker DEADBEAT Scott Monteith is a Canadian musician, sound artist, and music technology educator best known for his work under the stage name Deadbeat. Having launched the project in 1999, his work over 13 albums for labels such as ~scape, wagon repair and his own BLKRTZ imprint, countless singles and remixes, and a genre defining DJ mix (Radio Rothko) have solidified his position as one of modern dub music's greatest champions. Having met with consistent critical acclaim from the industry's leading publications, his live performances and DJ sets have also drawn multiple invitations from electronic music's most globally recognized festivals including Montreal's Mutek, Barcelona's Sonar, and Berlin's Transmediale, and as a educational speaker and workshop leader for the world renowned Red Bull Music Academy, as well as technology leaders such as Microsoft and Ableton among others. Whether crafting undefinable noise and sound scapes, kaleidoscopic house and techno, or new approximations of the the timeless forms of reggae dub and dancehall laid down by his Jamaican musical heroes around the time of his birth, Scott has established himself as an unique, ever evolving, and visionary musical voice in an increasingly crowded field. Scott lives and works in Berlin. BRYAN KASENIC Bryan Kasenic (aka Spinoza) is known in the electronic music world for founding The Bunker, playing adventurous DJ sets, launching an influential newsletter, and starting Beyond Booking. Although Bryan's peaktime sets consist mostly of techno and house, he loves all music, and has a past that cannot be pinned down to just one genre. He started DJing in 1996, playing psychedelic soundscapes in chillout rooms and on college radio shows (Carnegie Mellon, Rutgers, and New York University). Slowly but surely, he began to play more dancefloor friendly sets that incorporated his interest in the deeper spaces you can go to in the chillout room. Bryan is also known for his many other roles in the electronic music scene. As a free service to the community, he began publishing Beyond NYC Events, a weekly email newsletter, in 1997. The newsletter became an influential way to promote interesting under-the-radar electronic music events to a large fan base in New York. In 2001, Kasenic oversaw the booking of all of the promoters at Openair, a DJ lounge in the East Village that quickly gained recognition for its forward-thinking music programming. At Openair, one of the promoters he worked with was Magda, who brought in techno luminaries like Zip, Daniel Bell, and John Tejada to play at her first residency in New York City. From 2000 to 2005, Spinoza helped DJ Olive and Jameson run The Agriculture, a record label dedicated to bringing homegrown laptop dub to the masses. DEEP SPACE: Deep Space, is an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes, and abstract grooves featuring resident DJ François K. live on the mixing board with special guests. Since the party’s launch in 2003, Deep Space has featured a who’s who of well known and then emerging artists from around the world representing a stunning array of musical styles that Deep Space is known for integrating into its open minded aesthetic. While the mission of Deep Space remains committed to sharing a love of dub, a vast, under-appreciated musical direction, the party has invited a great range of guest artists to share their creative dub mixing approaches to all things spacey, psychedelic and mind-bending.
