Tunnel Vision: Lovers Rock Showcase with JTC, Container, Ital, Earthen Sea & Aurora Halal

  • Tunnel Vision takes over Shea Stadium for a night of heavenly heaviness. We're departing from Bossanova for our first big banger, a special Lovers Rock showcase featuring::: JTC (aka Charles Manier - Ghostly Int'l, Crème, Nation, M>O>S) CONTAINER (Morphine, Liberation Tech, Spectrum Spools) ITAL (Workshop, Planet Mu, Lovers Rock) EARTHEN SEA (Lovers Rock) AURORA HALAL (Mutual Dreaming, Lovers Rock) JTC has spent the last 15 years establishing himself as one of America's premier exponents of all things jack & squelch. His inimitable pairing of slinky groove with heavyweight sonic assault has made him a true living legend, and his work on records such as "Creep Acid" and "The Dancing Box" paved the way for many of America's most exciting underground house producers working today. A man of many aliases (Dabrye, Charles Manier and the 2AM/FM collab with D'Marc Cantu) and an absolute machine on the decks, JTC sets are true journeys, seething, claustrophobic, redemptive and unwaveringly visionary. Container is hands down the cream of the current noise-meets-techno crop. Equally at home in a condemned Providence warehouse as at the helm in Berghain, his sets bolster scraping, screaming industrial nihilism with an intoxicating funk that's half Dan Bell and half Black Sabbath. Unapologetically primal, yet not without a sly grin, Container's music has been embraced equally by brainy synth freaks, e'ed up European clubbers, high art curators and lowest-of-the-low scum crew headbangers. His most recent release "Adhesive," on Mute sub label Liberation Technologies is both his harshest and catchiest to date. Ital's recently re-launched Lovers Rock label takes over the rest of the night. A seldom-seen live performance by the man himself showcases his visceral, exploratory approach with a slew of all new material. His releases last year for Workshop & Lovers Rock, and for Planet Mu as Interplanetary Prophets in collab with Jamal Moss, revealed a sensual, melting dreamworld that orbits house, techno and the like yet is beholden to none. His forthcoming collaboration with Aurora Halal as Ital & Halal continues the thread, each moment of bouncy joy cut with sweaty paranoia, each beam of light tripping into darkness. Having just released his masterpiece "Mirage" on Lovers Rock this February, Earthen Sea joins us from California for a set of meditative and immersive throb. Achingly beautiful yet never sentimental, Earthen Sea's elusive, enveloping music seems to be always just out of reach, beckoning the listener into a zone of deeply contemplative, serene dance. We are honored to have the man join us on such a stellar lineup. Aurora Halal's shadowy, ethereal techno has been a strikingly unique sound to emerge from NYC in the last year. Now her work is suddenly seeing the light of day internationally, with four releases coming out back-to-back on her own Mutual Dreaming imprint, Netherlands-based BAKK records, Bossa Nova's "Bushwick is Melting" comp, and of course Lovers Rock. Her sets recently have combined lush dub techno, churning monochrome bangers and smeared house, all with her unmistakably personal touch.
