Reviveher Let's Play House Loft Party - Rub N Tug + Jacques Renault

  • 2014 heralds the start of an exciting new era: Having feared for the future of their favourite home, The ReviveHER collective have taken over the loft space in the apex of the Mother Studios building and transformed it into StudioWHO: our own sky lit portal to paradise and primordial zoo of creative delights. The Victorian chocolate factory's sweet legacy lives on. An event space by night and multifunctional studio by day, this stronghold will be home to many more ReviveHER parties, a base for it’s forthcoming label and soon to be revealed, mysterious second imprint, not to mention a space for her friends’ parties and an opportunity for like-minded promoters, artists and creatives who may want to take advantage of the gallery space or it’s neighbouring smaller studios. The hype surrounding StudioWHO has already started pulling in some serious requests. Over the next few months ReviveHER will host an unbelievable series of exclusive debuts, album launches and themed label showcases. The launch party for ReviveHER’s very own StudioWHO (formerly known as Mother Studios) will be the loft party to end all loft parties (figuratively speaking that is). We welcome the return of two all-time favourites representing the Brooklyn underground: Let’s Play House featuring special guests Rub N Tug and Jacques Renault. Let’s Play House (NYC) Let’s Play House (NYC) epitomise the party crew come scene changers. Anthem magazine editor Nik Mercer and Jacques Renault curate “energetic, comfortable, warm environments where people loosen up, forget the world, and delve deep into the realm of dance music.” Their parties are legendary and the music on the label is born straight from the floor. With releases from artists as varied as Morgan Geist, The Rapture, and Bicep, their work represents a much wider spectrum than NYC throwback but the influence of 'The Loft' can still be felt. Label boss Jacques Renault is a classical violinist and one time member of the DC hardcore scene. He cut his teeth working for Chicago’s legendary Gramophone records before launching Let’s Play House with Nik in 2009. Alongside his own extensive body of work outside of the label, he has also produced a number of spellbinding mixes for the likes Seun Kuti, Breakbot, Holy Ghost, YACHT and many more. His new EP ‘The Fake Out’ is killer. A trippy sampled affair with lots NY nuances underpinned by urgent industrial loops. Over the next four months LPH release music from fresh groundbreaking talent such as Squarehead, Andres Laos, on song Francis Inferno Orchestra and a very intricately produced, eagerly awaited affair from Japanese artist, Atsuchi Yano. Rub N Tug (Eric ‘Dr Dunks’ Duncan + Thomas Bullock) Joining Jacques will be LPH’s favourite guests and DJs of all time - Rub N Tug - the dastardly disco duo who come back together for an extremely rare appearance, having not thrown one of their infamous debauched parties in over 5 years: just a few exclusive gigs, Japan tours, remixes and BIS appearances in between their own individual life pursuits. Named after the Chinese rub n tug massage palace cum loft space where Dr Dunks and Thomas Bullock used to throw their parties, Rub N Tug’s reputation on the NY scene preceded their global status. “ A crazy night with 40 cases of champagne on the fire escape, fights broke out while we scratched records. At one point T played the keyboard with his bare ass. You know that kind of party.” Dr Dunks Off the back of their reputation, they went on to produce a celebrated Fabric live DJ mix and remix everyone from Beastie Boys to Roxy Music to Zero 7 and tour for several years straight. Individually they are greatly celebrated in their own right. Dr Dunks with a plethora of remixes and releases on the likes of Golf Channel, his recent work with Rhythm Odyssey, as well as his Japanese related C.O.M.B.I. and Keep It Cheap labels; and Thomas Bullock for his involvement in the early days of The Tonka crew alongside DJ Harvey, the Wicked crew with their west coast psychedelic sounds and for pioneering electroclash way before it hit London with “A.R.E weapons” back in 96’.

In recent years Bullock has had numerous side projects also, including ‘Food of the Gods’, an electronic super group with DJ Harvey and ‘Laughing Light of Plenty’ with BIS favourite, Secret Circuit. Last time he was in town he turned up at LN-CC where he jammed with Jonny Nash, 2ManyDJs and Trevor Jackson and not for the first time….. His passion for the Mexican spirit Mezcal recently led Bullock to start his own Mezcal export business, Spirit Bear Mezcals. What a dude. He threw a party at LN-CC for the launch and jammed with his Spirit Bear Mezcal Ensemble (seriously talented dudes at the party such as Tiago, Merrick Adams, Kyle Martin). The recording was recently released on limited vinyl via LN-CC for the lucky few who own it. Our StudioWHO launch also hails the triumphant return of long lost son, birthday boy and founding member of ReviveHER, James Cooper (aka Bi-Bop) who has been spreading the good word to the Tokyo underground, having successful launched the first ReviveHER party in Tokyo with buddies Chida and COSMES. More on this front shortly… We are now pleased to announce StudioWHO open for business. Welcome Home ReviveHERs
