Reviveher x Local Talk Records Loft Party - Kyodai - Live, Outboxx, Mad Mats & Tooli

  • Local Talk Records Records (Stockholm) Still basking in the solar trails swept in by Xosar and the Rush Hour Crew, we welcome the return of our Viking brethren Local Talk for a classic house party in both senses of the term. With over 50 releases since their inception in 2011, LT have steamrolled their way into every self-respecting DJ’s bag. They’ve put Stockholm on the map and broken a host of international acts like Kyodai, HNNY and Trujillo. Their trademark green and white label is synonymous with a throwback sound, which has won them many fans in the capital and beyond. May 30th is one of a series of specially curated ‘Local’ parties springing up across the world. Prior to this they’ve hit up Berlin (Panorama Bar), NYC (Cielo) and Tokyo. Later this year they appear at ADE and Sonar. We are proud to present their London showcase complete with rare live performances from the label’s special guests. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ KYODAI - Live Heading up the bill are possibly their most successful act to date- Kyodai- two spanish “brothers” based in Berlin whose influences stem from a theoretical training in Jazz and an obsession with Latin music, Jazz Funk and 90s Garage House. Kyodai’s star secured a steady ascension following their 2011 debut on Freerange when they were snapped up by Local Talk Records for their “Gilles Peterson’s All Winners” ‘Breaking’ EP. The lead track went as far as to be licensed by Grand Theft Auto V and a hyped release on Pokerflat followed, which Kerri Chandler featured on his RA podcast and signed to a Cielo compilation on Nervous. Despite having only mapped only 7 releases since 2011, including another Local Talk bomb “Moving”, the pair have acquired a massive backlog of remix and production requests this year. Their music is bejewelled with jazzy instrumentals pinned together with old school sample techniques, deep synths and upfront grooves. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ OUTBOXX Ft NAOMI JEREMY - Live Ready to follow in Kyodai’s footsteps are Local Talk’s newest proteges, Outboxx, a pair of Bristol’s own who are shaping up nicely to inherit the throne. Outboxx have maintained a critically acclaimed output (4/5 on RA all the way) across 3 eps and a self-titled full length album released in quick succession on BRSTL, Idle Hands and Futureboogie. “With its mix of classic house tropes, primeval bass and elegant downtempo, The Fade EP is Outboxx’s recent debut album in microcosm. But that’s no bad thing— Matt Lambert and Jake “Hodge” Martin have talent to burn.” RA The ‘Planet Love EP’ on Local Talk is the latest record to drop and with Deetron, Ryan Elliott and Panorama bar resident Tama Sumo as outspoken fans, it’s sure to cause quite a stir. Musically speaking they hail from a place rich in electronic pedigree. Bristol with all it’s bass heritage is a city awash with new-sounds - outside of Outboxx, ‘Hodge’ has notched up a number of well respected releases on Hyponik and Punch Drunk alongside such talents as Peverelist with music leaning towards the darker urban-tinged sound. Outboxx perform a rare live show with their guest vocalist Naomi Jeremy and Hodge, otherwise known as Jacob Martin, spontaneously jamming beats and Matthew Lambert colouring the melodic textures that complete the picture. Influences come from far and wide, but perhaps most crucial is the throwback theme, with elements of Classic Soul, House and Boogie aplenty. Reflective of the ReviveHER aesthetic, these promising young producers are pushing sounds forward with respect for where the music came from to get where it is today. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ MAD MATS & TOOLI Rounding off proceedings in the appropriate fashion are The Nordic masters and Local Talk label heads themselves - Last time Mad Mats and Tooli took to the decks they blew the roof off - party tunes and turntablism like you’ve never witnessed. If you were to party into the apocalypse you'd want these guys beside you. Regularly voted ‘Sweden’s best DJ’, Mad Mats first came to notoriety as the Swedish break dancing champion of 1985. This was the beginning of a musical odyssey that led him to London and a whole new world of dance. A fateful trip to New York’s legendary House club ‘Sound Factory’ followed. He returned to Stockholm on a mission and the club ‘Raw Fusion’ was born: with an ethos close to the ReviveHER manifesto - “100% musical freedom”. Over it’s 13 years many heroes graced the decks: Theo Parrish, Peanut Butter Wolf, Jay Dee, Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, DJ Harvey, James Lavelle, Gilles Peterson, Gil Scott Heron, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Vadim, Joe Claussell, Louie Vega, Kerri Chandler, Mike Dunn, Timmy Regisford, Weatherall …in short close to 150 guests! He also set up Raw Fusion Records, delivering over 50 releases expressing the eclecticism upon which it was founded: black underground music with a raw, urban feel. Everything from soulful house to hip-hop, rough latin jazz and Detroit techno. Ever inspired by open minded jockeys that “got balls”, Mats never disappoints to bring the party: “Remember, only real DJs know how to flip a b-boy windmill!” Mad Mats. His long time collaborator and Local Talk cohort, Tooli was introduced to the scene through his online music hub and club night of the same: 24:HRS - making him one of Stockholm’s busiest promoters and music journalists. He's also musical director at Tranen one of the hippest bar in town. Together these guys swing right off the hook. The last party went on till WHO knows when and now they’re back, baying for your party flesh once again. This will be the final part of our Label Showcase trilogy at our new space StudioWHO and our last until after the summer. We’ll be back with a bang for our 5th birthday but in the meantime grab your ticket to ride our lift to the top floor one last time before you hit the Pina Coladas by the pool. Demand is high and capacity is limited with tickets now on final release. Prepare for melt down.
