As a special Bank Holiday weekend treat, Soundcrash take you on the trip of a lifetime, from South Africa to Jamaica to Angola to Lisbon and back! On the 4th May 2014, Electrowerkz London will transform into an eclectic cocktail of deep Bass music from Branko of Buraka som Sistema, combined with rapid style rhythms and soulful vocal chorus’ from Nozinja aka Shangaan electro as well as the diverse selections from Debruit, this is the club night of the century, guaranteed to make people dance faster than ever before!
Richard "Nozinja" Mthetwa is the South African artist, producer and DJ who has masterminded a 21st century reboot of indigenous folk tradition, Tsonga disco, kwaito and house to create the Afro-futurist dance music dubbed ‘Shangaan Electro’. The contemporary synth-driven music is combined with traditional rhythms and percussion to produce an eminently danceable, frantic and ruthless concoction. Nozinja has toured extensively with Shangaan Electro, performing scene-stealing turns at Sonar, Roskilde and Sydney festivals alongside club sessions at the Berghain.
Branko (formerly J-Wow) is the driving force and one of the main producers in Buraka Som Sistema. The Lisbon group released their debut album ‘Black Diamond’ in November 2008 to rave reviews and acclaim from a who’s who of relevant producers, and continued to make waves with sophomore album “Komba” in 2011. When Branko is not touring or in the studio with Buraka, he’s either scouting for new music for his Enchufada label or making beats by himself. Branko plays innovative electronic rhythms and genres from every corner of the planet.
Hailed as the ‘Parisian Synth Magician’, dEbruit’s talents as both a producer and performer are internationally acclaimed. As a talented musician and instrumentalist, his productions offer a diverse range of sounds and styles all mixed seamlessly together to create exciting, lively music to be enjoyed by all.
LV are a South London duo who have been consistently releasing music since 2007, having had releases through labels such as Hyperdub, Hemlock, 2nd Drop and more. Their award winning blend of Dubstep and Hip Hop is fused with bags of mixed culture with an Electronic twist, which works as brilliantly in Dj sets as it does when performed with the band during live sessions, a prime example being their performance at Radio1’s Maida Vale Studios. Their music is made to make you move, their big beats and clever blend of instruments and vocals have gained support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mary Ann Hobbs, Kode9 and Benga & Skream to name a few.
Under the moniker Turtle, Jon Cooper, has already received support and acclaim from the likes of Lauren Laverne and Gilles Peterson to name but a few. His debut EP titled ‘Who Knows’ is an elegant mixture of electronic sounds and ambient synths, topped with delicate vocals.
Expect nothing less than one of the most earth moving bass raves of the year, tickets will fly for this one so don’t sleep on it!
