London has always been a hotbed, perhaps THE hotbed of music culture for decades. People from all over the world trade genres, ideas, beats, hits and hooks to create new sounds nearly every day. Daniel Avery grew up in this world, ingesting everything from dubstep to jungle. His wheelhouse lies in the 90s-era big room rock and house sound of Primal Scream and the Chemical Brothers. He is a long-time resident DJ at Fabric, indisputably one of the top 5 clubs in the world, so he’s constantly engaging in new music and putting it in context. His Rinse FM show sees guests regularly like James Holden.
So when he released his own music, in a full-length called Drone Logic for Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label, imagine all those things in one: Advanced sound design, very powerful caustic beats and shoegaze techno. There’s a reason the venerable Andrew Weatherall calls him “One to Watch.”
Consider him stared at. With the critical praise under his belt, Avery entered into the rarefied Essential Mix at the end of March and quite simply knocked it out of the park.
Mmmmaven, Together Boston and Middlesex Lounge are proud to have the Fabric resident inside the Make It New booth during #tgthr5. Expect dark waves of sound to overwhelm the senses.
