In a comeback special feted as the next Rodriguez, the Penny Penny myth rose from a poverty-stricken family of 68 children to making a break as a studio janitor come Tsonga disco star. Releasing his one and only album Shaka Bundu in 1994 to the tune of 250,000 copies sold, Penny remained a national secret until the LA-based Awesome Tapes of Africa reissued his vintage sides to light last year.
Nicknamed for his distinctive dancing, the top knot-toting 52-year-old has finally returned to his simple yet deep synth pop anthems – a visionary take on American club music of the day coupled with innovative stylings of traditional African music, all sung in his native Xitsonga language nonetheless.
Now living as the first African musician to become a National Congress councillor, Penny Penny will return from official business to essential business in full Goodgod galore... As they say in show business, this extravaganza is a one-night only affair, don't miss it!
