  • Last November we teamed up with Tough Breaks for an Epic Winter rave off at the Harley with non other than the mighty Benny Page! To help us close off for the summer wev decided to replicate that massive night once again! With an even BIGGER LINEUP!!!!! ED SOLO ! Quite frankly – if you want your crowd to go mental, if you want a hook so massive it could land a blue whale and if you want your basslines dripping with warmth and menace in spectacularly equal measure – then Ed Solo is ya man". - LSD Magazine Buried in his laboratory somewhere in subterranean Brighton and knee deep in downright dangerous frequencies, Ed Solo is cooking up a relentless storm of dancefloor gold. Extraordinarily prolific and one of the finest engineers/producers in the dance music business, Ed honed his skills as a junglist before ducking and diving through every style of broken beat going. With a sublime ability to make whoever he’s sat next to in the studio sound shit hot, a precision ear for sonic good times and an instinct for heavyweight tunage, his stamp on electronic music runs as deep as some of his subs. Ed cut his teeth at the controls in the mid nineties by engineering the likes of Black Twang, Elizabeth Troy & Roots Maneuver at the notorious SOUR Records studios, he went on to lay down a series of groundbreaking collaborations with jungle kingpin DJ Brockie and also released records on a fistful of universally respected labels like True Playaz and Undiluted Records. The later part of the decade saw Ed shift operations from London to Brighton and into a studio above Krafty Kuts record shop. This move led to all manner of mischief, mayhem and rampaging funk as breakbeat hit its apex and signature tunes like ‘Ill Type Sound’ and ‘Bunker Buster’ hit the street. In 2007 Ed released the timeless album ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ alongside Skool of Thought and Darrisson. Critically acclaimed on dancefloors the world over, the album dropped a systematic stream of blazing tracks including ‘When I Was A Yout’, ‘We Play The Music’ and ‘Love Your Life’ In the club, Ed is at the centre of one of the most innovative revolutionary shows of modern times, the Battlejam events run with production partner and UK DMC Champ JFB and UK beatbox champ Beardyman. Working together, the trio cut, scratch and loop up live audio recordings - some made by members of the crowd only seconds before - to create an entirely new, interactive, real-time experience. https://soundcloud.com/edsolo M.I. Loki Meeting on a hazy night in 1995, at Wild Times in Cambridge it wasn't until 2005 and a move to Sheffield that the unique pairing of Matt Scott and Ian Stanley began making tracks together. It began with a bootleg of Come Together by the Beatles, and continued with a joint love for sampling Zoolander, mini guns, Bill Duke and all things Chevy Chase. Having experimented with hip hop, house, DnB, and whatever else they could place a beat underneath, it became apparent that the laws of breakbeat, or rather the lack of them, would allow them to bring all of their musical tastes to one table. Influenced more by the early days of the "breaks" genre where breakbeats were alive and reigned supreme, they set up Tricksta Recordings in May 2006. Since then they have developed and evolved their sound, playing with everything from a more organic sounding style of breakbeat music to dub influenced bleeps and squeaks. They recieved a nomination for best breakthrough producers at the International breakbeat awards in 2008, and won the category of Best Breakthrough label at the same awards (for their Tricksta imprint), they have performed all over the UK alongside such names as Aquasky, Si Begg, Elite Force, Freq Nasty, Reso and The Freestylers. https://soundcloud.com/user4207148 Alex Deadman Co-owner of R8 Records, Alex has been known in this city, and the world, for his experience in the ways of the Amen!
