  • Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club - 3rd May at Concorde 2 Advanced Tickets here - http://bit.ly/1k3kvIM The King of Funk is back in Brighton and what better way to welcome the Summer other than to join Funk and Soul Club for what is bound to be an almighty Funk fest with the likes of Lack of Afro showcasing their Album launch, residents Soul Casserol and Beatwell and Brighton newcomers to the Funk gang – Toucan Play. Craig Charles - The King of Funk is back at the seaside with another stellar line up. Craig Charles off the telly has been making huge waves in the Funk and Soul scene ever since 10 years ago, when he took the helm of 6 music’s Funk and Soul Show on Saturday night. His listeners have grown in number exponentially and so has his thirst for playing out at his own parties. It’s the best party in town and to prove it, he has brought with him an overwhelming array of musical talent in the shape of... Lack of Afro - has achieved a startling amount in the few years since his first releases on Freestyle records. With four highly acclaimed albums under his belt, touring live and DJing across the world, and producing and remixing everyone from Tom Jones, The Pharcyde, The New Mastersounds through to Kraak & Smaak - Lack of Afro is soon to release his fifth album “Music for Adverts”. Wide ranging, eclectic and progressive musical outlook has always been the Lack of Afro approach. His new album follows suit as he harnesses disparate musical styles ranging from funk, soul and hiphop to create a contemporary yet retro musical escapade of dancefloor friendly funk. Lack of Afro has received huge support since the beginning from BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music and has played multiple live sessions at Maida Vale studios in London. His tunes have been featured in TV and film in both the UK and US: from Sky Sports to HBO hit TV show Entourage, the Hollywood film “Magic Mike” and even inside the Olympic Stadium for London 2012. Soul Casserole & Beatwell - DJs Evil Broke Elvis, Dusty Du and Alkie Tuner have a bit of a reputation for making DJing look like it's one big lark, it's difficult to tell who is enjoying the night more, the crowd or the DJs. One thing's for sure all three DJs are passionate about the music they play. A spicy melange of Stax, Trojan, Motown, Blue Note, Zodiac, Chess and Loma Records. They also have a late night tendency to throw a blend of randomness into the pot; from Reggae to Ragga and Blues to Hip hop. Expect an unpretentious night of full speed funky beats! Toucan Play - Toucan Play brings the 1970's New York disco party scene all the way to present day Brighton… Forget Saturday Night Fever and ABBA, residents Tony Mustard and Owl Capone will take you back to what started as one of the most exciting dance movements in history, paying homage to the early fusions of funk, soul, afrobeat and latin influences that came together at the fingertips of New Yorks finest spinners to make what was to become disco music.
