Almost five centuries ago the historic city of Leiden was under siege by an armada of foreign powers. And, although in a slightly different setting, history is about to repeat as some of the world’s most prominent names in contemporary electronic music are set to perform at MyHouse in the Stadsgehoorzaal Leiden on Saturday June 28.
On that evening MyHouse will transform the beautiful venue, a music auditorium dating back as far as 1891, into a club for-a-night. It’s the second time they do so. On the previous occasion earlier this year Detroit natives Omar S (FXHE) and Kyle Hall (Wild Oats) blessed the crowd with stand out performances. In a setting that was originally designed for orchestral music, Omar S and Kyle Hall both crafted hot disco, fast paced techno, sturdy house and far-out electronics into one true Detroit symphony.
Saturday June 28 will be no different, as two absolute Detroit pioneers take over the stage: Moodymann and Carl Craig! The first representing sleazy disco and deep, housey vibes while the latter showcases the futurist side of Detroit. And although they might differ in sound, there is a clear common factor. It’s not because they share the same hometown, both run infamous record labels (KDJ/Mahogani Music and Planet E) or have had long successful careers stretching to the beginning of DJ culture. It’s essentially the fact that they both possess that same exceptional musicality, one can only find in the likes of legends such as Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Kraftwerk and George Clinton. Both Moodymann and Carl Craig are true craftsmen making music without boundaries; they reach for the soul.
The two Detroit natives will be supported by none other than Baltimore’s Karizma from Yoruba fame; DJ Rahaan, the disco veteran straight out of Chicago; and Dutch techno-DJ Rod Malmok (Klockworks). Resulting in a top heavy delegation consisting of some of the biggest names in contemporary electronic music guaranteeing one special night with hot disco, house and pure Detroit techno. A one-off chance to see so many outstanding musicians in such an intimate and beautiful historic setting!
