Sunrise Highway & Darshan Jesrani and more

  • Sunrise Highway [True Romance] A five track masterpiece of pure 8o’s influenced pop/funk/boogie from New York. Mastered by Herb Powers (Sade, Eric B. & Rakim, Sharon Redd, Evelyn Champagne King etc.) "I think the mission ultimately, was to be song focused. To create pop music, that does in fact make you want to move and groove, but to focus on the timelessness of great song craft, and be musicians again." -Tim Wagner- Dither Down Records It's mildly comical, that Tim Wagner and Amy Douglas, two former Long Islanders would choose Sunrise Highway as the name for their venture, but one listen to the music, and it's clear as to why they chose such a lofty and expansive name. Sunrise Highway is atmospheric, sophisticated, broad, and most importantly a return to the song as king. Inspired by the juggernaut pop albums recorded at Compass Point, Sunrise Highway blends Pop, Jazz, R+B and House Music into a melange that is modern, but familiar. The three members could almost be described as a "dance music supergroup" considering their collective pedigree. Tim Wagner is one of NYC's most potent producers, having earned his stripes with the boogie electro-funk driven 33HZ, and then building upon that legacy to create Dither Down Records, one of NYC's hottest tastemakers, releasing dance records with artists as diverse as ORTHY, Eli Escobar, Walker & Royce and Galaxians. Ask anyone who's anyone in dance music about Nick Chacona and they'll tell you he is one of the best, a DJ's DJ, but he's also a producer's producer. With a CV boasting hits on labels such as Mood Music, Buzzin Fly, Bearfunk, his collaboration with Roy Dank, Beg To Differ, and as a columist for XLR8R Magazine, Nick has been bringing it to audiences on dance floors around the world and delighting all his music touches. Amy Douglas, has been called "the Queen of Nu Disco" by some, as in the last 4 years, she's made her mark, as feature vocalist for some of dance music's biggest bangers, with artists as diverse as Juan MacLean,Treasure Fingers, KON, Eli Escobar and DJ Sega. She's also front person for hard rock band FEINTS when she's not supplying grease for dance hits round the world. When Tim and Amy met at CMJ in 2011, they found they had an immediate kinship, "we both loved SONGS so much, and both missed actually sitting down and playing them. We're so perverse we actually sent videos of each other playing AM Gold hits on our respective keyboards to each other and cracking each other up." Tim and Amy started to write songs with an ease rarely found, and when Nick heard what was cooking in the lab, he wanted in. "I really missed music that lasts long after the night is over, songs that would stand the test of time, produced really elegantly, with tons of layers, and when I heard what Amy and Tim were doing with the songwriting, I really felt like I had a place in it, and a compunction to get involved." One listen to their results by rising star, Tensnake, was all it took, and the trio was instantly signed to his True Romance label. Sunrise Highway make their international debut on May 5th. Darshan Jesrani [Metro Area, Startree] After over a year of late-night sessions in New Jersey and Manhattan, Metro Area burst onto the scene in 1999 with their self-titled debut 12" featuring the cult smash "Atmosphrique." The brainchild of veteran producers Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, Metro Area was born out of the duo's dichotomous love of both the old moods of R&B, disco and boogie and the more cutting-edge sound of innovative house and techno. Metro Area brings back the soulful experimentation of early club classics, mixing live and electronic instruments. Simultaneously, the mood and minimalism of more recent dance music forms creep into the mix: Detroit's icey futurism, Chicago's abstract track-modes and the warmth of New York and New Jersey's deep house. Voices of Black [7:30 Alliance] VOICES OF BLACK CONSISTS OF MEMBERS JULES BORN AND BABA ALI. BOTH JUST 23 YEARS OLD THE YARCHERS THEMSELVES INVITE LISTENERS ON A COSMIC JOURNEY THAT BENDS CONVENTIONAL STANDARDS OF SOUND. NOTORIOUS FOR SIMPLE VOCALS LAYERED OVER INTROSPECTIVE LYRICS ,LAYERED OVER INFECTIOUS MELODIES, LAYERED OVER STRONG RHYTHMS GIVES AUDIENCES A COMPLEX STYLE THAT IS ORIGINAL AND REFRESHING. WHILE VOB'S SOUND IS UNDOUBTEDLY NEW WAVE ELECTRO THERE ARE TRACES OF CLASSIC FUNK AND SOULFUL MELODIES–THE GROUP IS ALSO NOT AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT WITH VOCAL PATTERNS AND STYLES THAT HAVE ALMOST A SPOKEN WORD FEEL. Tim Love Lee [Tummy Touch / East Village Radio] Tim “Love” Lee, the eccentric A&R maverick behind the Tummy Touch record label, started out his professional career in music playing Hammond organ for 80s pop stars, Katrina & The Waves but it was as a DJ on the early UK Acid House scene that Lee really developed his skills as a “selector” of fine and far out music. Since releasing his first full length album in 1997 Tim has rocked crowds all around the world; from Helsinki to Sydney, San Francisco to Moscow, Hong Kong to Paris. From huge festivals (like Benicassim in Spain, Bestival & The Big Chill in the UK) to world famous discos (Ministry Of Sound and Fabric, London) to infamous dive bars and celeb hang outs (The Viper Rooms in Hollywood, NYC’s Rose Bar), Tim’s sets always produce a smile. In the summer of 2005 Tim was invited to curate a show at the Xpo Gallery in Brooklyn. Every night Tim performed live electronic music with the likes of Tim Goldsworthy of DFA and Pere Ubu’s Tony Maimone. In 2006 he was asked by MOMA to curate one of their legendary Warm Up summer parties at the PS1 museum in Queens, NYC. Lee’s selecting skills have landed him radio shows with KISS FM, BBC 6 Music and NYC’s East Village Radio as well as official DJ Mix CD releases from Universal Records, Keep Diggin and Stereo Deluxe / Ministry Of Sound. His work with East Village Radio has seen him interview the likes of DJ Shadow, The Cars, Metronomy, Orbital
