Hailing from The Hague in Holland, Ferenc van der Sluijs or I-F as he's better known to dance music aficionados, is a bit of an underground sensation.
Known originally for tough acid techno sounds with "Europe's answer to Underground Resistance" - Unit Moebius. I-F spent the late 80s and most of the 90s producing raw jacking grooves for labels like Bunker and Acid Planet.
However his name was really made due to three things. Firstly as creator of seminal 1998 track 'Space Invaders are Smoking Grass' which is considered to be one of the most important underground tracks of all time.
Secondly his founding of the internet radio stations Intergalactic FM and it's predecessor CBS (Cybernetic Broadcasting System). Now defunct, CBS gave the kind of attention to out-there disco, italo and electro unthinkable for a mainstream station. It paved the way for the bigger, bolder and more “future-proof” Intergalactic FM, without doubt the greatest internet radio service and community on the planet (well, if you like electronic music).
Thirdly his mix series 'Mixed up in the Hague' which has been widely credited as the catalyst for the italo disco renaissance of the last 15 years. The series re-introduced the world to forgotten 80s monsters like Giorgio Moroder's The Chase and Mr Flagio - Take A Chance. Volume One is regularly cited as one of the greatest mixes ever recorded including placing fourth in Resident Advisor's top 50 mixes of the decade.
In short. I-F is exactly the kind of DJ we love at Pistols at Dawn. Hugely eclectic and unbelievably passionate about underground music. It cant hurt that he already has a massive following in Glasgow. This will be special.
Warm up as always will come from our intrepid residents Chris Devlin and Scott Collins
