This year sees the NODE festival return for its seventh edition at the Galleria Civica of Modena in Palazzo Santa Margherita, and in doing so it again sets the stage for a range of artists to engage with the public. The key players in this years’ event hail from various parts of the globe and are well known for working with layers of electronic sound as they relate to the disciplines of multimedia, and performance art. The programme opens with the electroacoustic sounds of Japanese musician Shingo Inao, followed by Emptyset from Bristol, and Berlin-based French composer Kangding Ray — acts that are capable of taking audiences beyond the confines of electronic minimalism. Day two sees the programme continue with the Italian/Belgian duo Lumisokea. Following this we wind down with performances by Roly Porter from England and Canada’s Egyptrixx, artists whose inspiration resides somewhere between science fiction and the contemporary, yet whose toolsets for creative expression are profoundly different. In conjunction with these performances, the second level of Palazzo Santa Margherita will host TRANSIENTE, an exhibition organised in collaboration with the Galerie Mario Mazzoli Berlin, which launches on 5 June and remains open for the duration of the festival. The exhibition will comprise five installations by Edgardo Rudnitzky, Shingo Inao, Pe Lang, Donato Piccolo e Michele Spanghero, and will explore sound as a fundamental structural element. The works have been created by combining and experimenting with a range of materials, namely magnetic, electrical, and mechanical devices and objects.
Following the performances at the Galleria Civica, NODE will move to Vibra Club where Dj Spinn and Om Unit, purveyors of the most recent productions in deep house, footwork, and jungle, will to give life to the after-shows as they explore the frontiers of club music over the two days of the festival.
