The Goods: Mantas Steles and Duke Shin

  • As Summer blooms we celebrate a fine evening of revelry and music with The Goods debut of ubiquitous Chicago underground talent Mantas Steles! Typically spotted about town supporting global touring artists at clubs like Spy Bar, Primary, Smart Bar (where he was recently honored with a slot on their Junior Resident Program) and running his own parties--along with tied partner Max Jacobson--we're excited to hear what he brings to our favorite weekly pre-wknd session... (oh, also, this is Duke's birthday edition of The Goods) Mantas Steles With his infectious energy, sophisticated ear, and tireless dedication, Mantas Steles is a rising star of Chicago’s underground dance music scene. A DJ, party promoter, and night owl, Mantas is a man in love with a sound that is in love with your body. Think: gentle kicks, closed high hats, whispered, seductive vocals, loopy, circus bass. Sonically wise beyond his years, Mantas pushes the boundaries of Chicago’s audio palette. His sets mix classic house and the newest techno party jams with the warped world of artists like Melchior and Ricardo. Fans from Chicago and beyond have flocked to hear Mantas in ever-rising numbers. And as those who have witnessed his marathon after-party sessions know so well, it’s clear that the Stallion’s magic really works. Soon after moving to Chicago at the tender age of 18, Mantas attended his first warehouse party. The rest is history…a blurry history. Having played for Volatl, MiM, NBFC, Spybar, Smartbar, and Varsity All Stars, Mantas’s latest accomplishment is a spot on Smartbar’s coveted Junior Resident Program. By playing with artists as diverse as Bruno Pronsato and Martin Buttrich, Mantas has carefully honed his sound, tailoring his style to the event while still keeping things all his own. The last few years have seen big things for Mantas and his crew. In addition to working on production, in the fall of 2012 Mantas teamed up with his best friend Max Jacobson to bring the tied parties to life - a series that has hosted D'julz, Giles Smith, DeWalta, Anthea, Cesare vs Disorder, and more. As dance music spirals into the mainstream, the tied parties keep Chicago anchored to its underground roots. Forever young, there is no telling what’s in store for Mantas’s musical future.
