For those that don’t yet know, Tuff Sherm is a Dro Carey side project, except it has more releases than Dro, so I guess really it’s just an alias… Tuff Sherm started not long after Dro Carey, and it was, like Dro, a name that first appeared on wax thanks to The Trilogy Tapes.
A few records and a few tapes later and I’m really blown away by the support this stuff has gotten, both abroad but I think even more significantly here in Aus. In the last month there have been three (!) releases of Tuff Sherm material, and two out of three are on Australian labels (one in Melbourne, one in Sydney). This show will be celebrating the release of the Plastic World release in particular, which is a split 12” -- one side is Tuff Sherm, the other side Cassius Select. Lavurn’s work as Cassius Select is really amazing and I strongly recommend you get along to see his set on the night, for my money it’s the best percussion sampling going on in the southern hemisphere.
I’ll also be joined by Cliques, a duo that I rate super-highly and am currently hitting the studio with occasionally, brewing up some collabs. Anyone who has seen their Boiler Room Sydney set knows what they will be bringing…
The line-up is completed with Preacha, a long time supporter of the Sherm material, as well as two other selectors with brilliant taste – Andy Webb and James McInnes.
