London breakout producer GIRL UNIT (Night Slugs) returns to Perth to leave a trail of electronic mania at the Home of the Underground on Friday 11 July.
What is Girl Unit? Juke? Dubstep? Drag?!
Nope, Philips Gamble is none of that. He’s the original founder of G-Unit, but left before they made the big time (mainly because of their degrading views on women and such like. RESPECT).
His debut single, ‘IRL’ was followed up (and lapped up) by the cross-continental poly-dance smash ‘Wut’; six-and-a-half minutes of airhorn awesomesauce that didn’t so much top year-end lists as it did wreck anything that came close to its perch. Girl Unit’s EP, Club Rez, took the bar and raised it – full of colour, melodic ability, freakin’ hooks like a line and sinker, and touches Techno and cavernous trance drip drops.
