Much of the focus can be attributed in part to Morphosis, who linked up with the Great Circles crew there and was inspired to release a series of records from _moonraker-related duo Metasplice and Philadelphia synthesizer improv legend Charles Cohen based on his experiences. Information remained short on local happenings, but it was clear that some kind of talent had been brewing for some time, and the illustrious history of Philly's Inciting events shows that someone in the city 90 minutes south of New York was paying attention. After a one-off in 2008 by Jason Carr, the Great Circles label formally got up to speed in 2011 and hasn't looked back since. Like the other wilder sounds emerging from our southern neighbor, Great Circles is more interested in breaking the frame than subscribing to well-worn ideas of electronic music, and their six releases to-date chart exciting new avenues that fall between techno, noise, improvisation, and other esoteric sounds. Industry of Machines is proud to welcome the crew to Bossa Nova Civic Club for a series of mostly-live PA debuts that is sure to expand sonic horizons. _moonraker is Jason Carr [GRCR-001] and kenneth_lay. After two groundbreaking releases on Great Circles, the inimitable duo has continued to shift their sound in unexpected directions, with subsequent releases on The Trilogy Tapes and, most recently the _bruxist label. Trevitt is known to seamlessly weave together cerebral, moody, and heavily mechanized chaos into rhythmic organization that commands movement on the dance floor. His personal production serves as a similar extension of form: straightforward but also allowing for the exploration of the full spectrum of the bizarre, hardly melodic, but absolutely musical. Westov Temple is Justin Gibbon, the founder and owner of Great Circles, who has also curated Philly’s Inciting events since 2006. Heavily influenced by jazz, African and Latin forms and a lifetime of drumming, Westov Temple live sets are frequently characterized by thick layers of murk and drone, upon which polyrhythmic movement and intercepted communications are explored via analog synthesis. M//R, or Magnetic Resonance, is the brainchild of Billy Werner. Based in Philadelphia by way of New York City, and co-founder of Philly’s longstanding Robotique and Liaison parties, Billy tinkers with keyboards and samplers and makes body music for the mind. A 12” EP is forthcoming on Great Circles in 2014, to be supported by DJ sets with fellow Great Circles family members.
