Daphni, el proyecto paralelo y en solitario de Dan Snaith de Caribou, y Samuel T. Shepherd, alias Floating Points, estarán pinchando back to back en Barcelona el próximo 9 de agosto en el marco excepcional del Monasterio del Poble Espanyol, en la montaña de Montjuïc. El encuentro musical de dos genios de la música electrónica, responsables de algunas de las producciones más excitantes y vanguardistas de estos últimos años. Una oportunidad para verlos pinchando mano a mano en un entorno único y exclusivo, en los jardines del Monasterio del Poble Espanyol, al aire libre y con vistas privilegiadas sobre Barcelona. El horario, entre las 6 de la tarde y las 12 de la madrugada, y el resto de servicios, comida, bebida…, cuidados hasta el último detalle, harán de esta sesión algo realmente especial.
Dan Snaith creó su proyecto paralelo en solitario Daphni poco después de lanzar su exitoso álbum Swim con Caribou, que le reportó un gran reconocimiento a nivel mundial por parte de público y medios especializados, que quedaron rendidos ante ese disco. Entonces empezó a experimentar con edits bizarros a partir de samples de vinilos de afrobeat o rock psicodélico de su exquisita colección. Estos edits aparecerían en los Volúmenes 1 y 2 de Daphni Edits, en el sello Resista. Para luego fundar su propio sello Jiaolong, cuya primera referencia sería su remix del Ne Noya del grupo africano de los setenta Cos-Ver-Zam, y dos temas suyos. Estos y otros cuantos temas más formarían parte de su primer álbum en Jiaolong 2012 como Daphni, titulado Jiaolong. Tras sacar material de Jeremy Greenspan o Les Sins (el proyecto dance de Chaz Bundik, conocido como Toro Y Moi), entre otros, Daphni ha sacado este 2014 un maxi en colaboración con el músico Owen Pallett, que pone su violín al servicio del tecno minimalista de Mr. Snaith.
Natural de Manchester e instalado en Londres, a sus 24 años, Sam Shepherd es considerado uno de los músicos electrónicos más avanzados de su generación, gracias a su proyecto Floating Points, que presentó en su propio sello discográfico Eglo Records, donde se ha publicado todo su material propio, excepto una referencia publicada en Planet Mu y otra en R2. Neurocientífico de día y productor de beats de noche, es también uno de los dj más solicitados del mundo, gracias a su particular estilo entre el hip hop, el jazz y la electrónica. Su pasión por el jazz, evidente en sus producciones, le ha llevado a formar el proyecto paralelo Floating Points Ensemble, con el que ha grabado su primer material en los míticos estudios Abbey Road.

Daphni, the side and solo Project by Dan Snaith from Caribou and Samuel T Shepard, aka Floating Points, will be deejaying back to back in Barcelona, on August 9th in the amazing Poble Espanyol at the Montjuic mountain. This reunion of two masterminds of electronic music, who are responsible for some of the most exciting and vanguard productions of the past years. An opportunity to see them on stage head to head in a unique and exclusive environment, in the gardens of the Monastery at the Poble Espanyol, outdoors and with amazing views over Barcelona. The schedule, starting at 6 pm up until midnight, and the rest of the services, food, beverages…, taken care of to the last detail, will make this session something truly remarkable.
Dan Snaith created his parallel solo Project Daphni, right after the launch of his successful album Swim with Caribou, which brought him a great deal of attention worldwide from the audience and specialized media, who totally embraced this album. He then started experimenting with bizarre edits with samples from afrobeat or psychedelic rock vinyls from his exquisite collection. These edits will appear on the Volumes 1 and 2 of Daphni Edits, on the Resista label. He then founded his own label Jiaolong launching his first hit Ne Noya a remix of an African group from the seventies Cos-Ver-Zam, as well as two tracks of his own. These and another few tracks would later become part of his first album at Jiaolong in 2012 as Daphni, titled Jiaolong. After publishing material by Jeremy Greenspan or Les Sins (the dance project by Chaz Bundik, known as Toro Y Moi) among others, Daphni has released a maxi this year in collaboration with Owen Pallett, who puts his violin at the service of Mr. Snaith and his minimalistic techno.

Neuroscientist by day and beats producer by night, he’s also one of the most acclaimed djs in the world thanks to his particular style that blends hip hop, jazz and electronica. His passion for jazz, which is evident in his productions, has made him create a parallel project named Floating Points Ensemble, with which he’s recorded his first material at the mythical Abbey Road studio.
