John Digweed Garden Party

  • He’s one of the planet’s most popular DJs, a defining name in dance music history whose achievements and ground-breaking productions need little introduction. Producer, promoter, DJ, label boss, radio host: John Digweed is one the hardest working names in music. Now he’s set to return to Australia this spring, performing at the re-launch of Chinese Laundry’s infamous Garden Parties on Saturday, 15th November. This week Chinese Laundry, one of Sydney’s most iconic underground clubs, announced a brand new music program that will officially kick off on Friday, 1 August. Partnering with Ministry of Sound’s formidable events arm, Soapbox Events, Chinese Laundry will host to two phenomenal weekly nights (BASSIC and LNDRY), two new monthly events (KLPARTY and BOSS BASS), sensational garden parties, hotly tipped residents and an unrivalled line-up of international headliners. The club is also set for a venue re-vamp with four leading Australian street artists creating a neon-charged art installation that will take over the underground space. And who better to celebrate the return of the Garden Parties than UK maestro, John Digweed. Innovative and always creative, from his energetic bass growlers to swirling cinematic cuts, a Digweed set is truly one of a kind. A 15-year-old John Digweed got his start in the burgeoning acid house scene in Hastings, England. In the decades to follow, he established the influential Bedrock name (Digweed’s iconic record label/promotions company/production partnership, alongside Nick Muir) and landed Top 40 smashes (including ‘Heaven Sent’ and 1996’s ‘For What You Dream Of’ – which ended up on the soundtrack to cult film Trainspotting). He’s scored Hollywood films and animated series (Stark Raving Mad, Spiderman for MTV), while alongside Sasha his Northern Exposure LP (1997) set the tone internationally for trippy journeys and progressive house, the disc critically acclaimed across the globe. He was the first British DJ to hold a residency at New York City’s most popular nightclub at the time, Twilo, while his Transitions radio show is currently one of the most successful dance shows on the airwaves, broadcasting to 60 countries to over 15 million listeners. Having recently compiled a marathon 37-track set for his Live In... series, which has released over 25 mixes to date – this time Live In Miami, released in late May – Digweed has also unveiled another 2 x CD compilation: Underground Sound of Ibiza, featuring 23 exclusive new Bedrock tracks. Also, look out for an exciting album project that he’s been working on with Nick Muir, which is due to drop in October. On the live front, you’ll be hard pressed to name a busier DJ. Digweed recently slayed dance fans yet again at the third night of Las Vegas’ epic Electric Daisy Carnival before heading over to Europe – shows everywhere from Malaga to Barcelona, Belgium, Mykonos, Poland, Munich and a residency throughout the summer at Pacha in Ibiza. He will also return to the States & Brazil again in August, with his schedule not slowing down an inch until he reaches our shores once again this coming November. Put simply, John Digweed is one of the legends. As one of the scene’s most unpretentious and talented figures his forward-thinking tunes and formidable achievements make these headline shows something you don’t want to miss.
