Jeff Samuel, Derek Plaslaiko and Jerry Abstract; three thirty-somethings raised in the Midwest that discovered techno in their teens. Both Derek and Jerry were instrumental promoters and DJs throughout the 90s in the Detroit area, while the Columbus based Samuel began releasing EPs in 1999. All three were largely inspired by sounds of Detroit and all three have gone on to do exceptional things in cities known for electronic music (Berlin, New York and recently Seattle). In addition to their upbringing and vital contribution to underground dance music, all three are known to deliver some of the most potent DJ sets on the planet. Ask anyone in the know and you'll find universal praise of these three behind the decks.
Last year Jeff Samuel and Derek Plaslaiko delivered commanding DJ sets at the VIP Room, making it one of the surprise venues of the entire 2007 Decibel Festival. The underground, Midwestern vibe of the music and the enthusiasm of the crowd left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance, including the artists. This is why we're proud to have them back in 2008. As for Mr. Abstract, he's one of two acts to perform at every Decibel Festival and his sets have consistently left audiences inspired and wanting more.
