Davis grew up in Chicago, and was turned on to house music at an early age by the likes of Lil’ Louis, DJ Pierre, Farley Jackmaster Funk, & Marshall Jefferson. Davis began his own production company named Phuture in the late 1980s and went on to become an A&R scout for record label Strictly Rhythm in NYC, whilst also running his Chicago-founded record label, Undaground Therapy Muzik, championed by artists like Seth Troxler in the 90′s. He was also a member of Phuture from Chicago-based acid-house group founded in 1985 by Spanky, DJ Pierre, and Herb J. The group's 12-minute track "Acid Tracks" (1987) is one of several recordings that lay claim to being the first-ever acid house record! Davis & singer-songwriter Peven Everett produced the single “Gabriel”, released on Large, and later licensed and released on XL Recordings in 1996. The track garnered international airplay, and was played in nightclubs around the world. It peaked at #22 in the UK SIngles Chart in November 1997. The single sold over 200,000 copies, and has appeared on numerous of compilation albums including Desert Island Mix from Gilles Peterson and continues to be a pioneering record in the history of Garage & House music. In 2004, Davis’ track, “About Love” reached #70 in the UK Singles Chart. Adding to the list of previous chart success with records such as “Who Dares To Believe In Me” under alias The Believers, and “All I Do” released on Omar S‘ artist-run label FXHE. Roy Davis Jr., has also been known for his work for Daft Punk‘s label Roulè which operated out of Paris in the early 90′s and also his production work for artists Eric Benet/Faith Evans, Mary J Blige, Seal, and Morcheeba. - Boiler Room set (London) - Roy Davis Jr. featuring Peven Everett - Roy Davis Jr. featuring Smoov D (Stevie Wonder remix) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Kim Anh (Booby Trap, Yowsah!) Kim Anh has been a part of underground dance culture since the mid-90s, cultivating her own unique sound from the early styles of classic and acid house, garage and minimal wave. Since her humble dj beginnings collecting vinyl in 1998, then launching her career in music in 2005, she has become a globally recognized DJ and producer, headlining bills across North America and further reaching into cities such as Copenhagen, Paris, London and Berlin. Kim Anh has released a catalogue of remixes and releases each with a unique sound paying homage to her key influences. Her most notable remix is for Sam Sparro‘s platinum-selling single “Happiness”, which, after its debut in 2012, hit #1 on the European Pop & Dance Charts. Her remix of Baby Alpaca’s “Wild Child” made it’s debut on NPR’s Los Angeles flagship station KCRW 89.9. Since hitting the airwaves in early 2014, it has become Kim Anh’s most talked about track. She has been making her mark on Los Angeles’ nightlife scene through her dj mixes and residencies, garnering LA Weekly’s annual Top Pick and being named “Tastemaker” by Thompson Hotels. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Young Adults You may know Young Adults as the sister label to Friends of Friends, but the label owners, Leeor Brown and David Fisher, also perform as DJs under the same name… And they are truly fantastic. Having alignment with some of the greatest names in underground dance music and already having played some of the greatest parties currently in the States, they are ones to watch in 2014. The two are purist in the way that they prefer to play exclusively vinyl sets! Get a taste of what they are all about in by listening to their mix for Fader, (one of Pickpocket’s personal favorite mixes, ever), and watch them rip up the Boiler Room. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mor Elian LA DJ/producer Mor Elian makes music that aims to bridge the gap between techno and house, with an energy that’s ideal for those post-club, afterparty moments. Her latest production, “U Don’t Know,” is a patient cut which slowly builds on a steady 4/4 beat and percussive embellishments. Soft pads and panning vocals emerge as reverberating claps and synth licks overtake the center of the mix. Eventually, Mor Elian’s galloping tune decomposes into an ambient break before ramping up once again to coast on its inherent nighttime vibe. - U Don’t Know (featured on XLR8R) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Pickpocket Kat Matutina, also known as Pickpocket, founded Donuts in 2006. She has been booking DJs, live bands/artists as well as opening up with all-vinyl sets since the beginning of Donuts parties in San Francisco. Her late night sets include old school Chicago house, boogie, disco, and italo.
