UTRIP FESTIVAL - 20 YEARS OF CLUB K4
This year the legendary Ljubljana club K4 starts with the 20th season of its existence – the celebration will begin on September 19th at 6pm with Utrip festival on two stages of Križanke summer theatre in Ljubljana, followed by the season opening night at the club itself at midnight.
MUSIC
At Križanke summer theater (the roof is covered, so rain won't stop us) the guest of undisputed honor will be Bonobo with his full band, their act being one of the festival-favorites of the last few of years. Bonobo, who sold out K4 with his DJ set a couple of years ago, and his gang will show us what organic, jazz and funk electronica is all about. On top of the charming singer Kathrin with her smoky, soulful voice, the visual pleasures will be provided by a pair of acclaimed Croatian artists Zvuk Broda and Onoxo.
Quite a sight and, of course, an audio delight will undoubtedly be provided by two UK DMC champions – scratch wizard JFB and beatboxer extraordinaire Beardyman. Their skills border on the impossible and their innovative act called Battlejam is a combo of live beatboxing, scratching and beatjuggling, everything spiced up by tons of improvisation and crowd interaction.
At Križanke central yard two German guests will be in charge of happy feet - Michael Fakesch will spin an eclectic DJ set full of fast paced tune changes, intensity and unpredictability and Raz Ohara will perform a solo live-act, a funky tech-groove parade made crazy by live sampling of Raz's voice, which is somewhere between Prince and Beck.
At Club K4 the season-opening festival-after-party will begin at midnight with two very special guests that need no special introduction since their names and music speak for themselves, Alix Perez and Jazzanova (Alex Barck). Alix's soulful and liquid drum'n'bass on one floor and Jazzanova's universally attractive jazzy and housy grooves on the other are a guarantee for a night to remember.
4. NATIONAL FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIP
The first few hours of action in the Križanke summer theater will be provided by 16 of the best freestylers in the country. Who will win this year is the question to which their performances and the votes from the jury and the crowd will give a much anticipated answer to. The last national championship was held in 2005 so there are bound to be some fresh new names around to stir things up. We will try to find 12 them at two pre-battles (September 6th at Mostovna in Nova Gorica and September 12th at Rdeca Ostriga in Škofja Loka) and they will be joined by four of those who came highest in the previous championship (Zlatko, Unknown, Pižama, King). Ljubljana has a strong hip hop scene and this is the event that has in the past and will again give birth to its superstars.
INTERNATIONAL BATTLE B BOY UTRIP
Eight crews, 16 dancers from five countries, three experienced judges and one fierce Bboy- turned-DJ – it's a recipe for a fantastic battle and heaps of entertainment for the spectators. Come and scream and cheer for your team – from Austria Moving Shadows, from Italy Feet For Funk, from Croatia Funky Thoughts, form Netherlands Got Skillz and from Slovenia Ill Skillz, The Rock, Warriorz in FireFlame.
VISUALS
K4 crew would die of shame if the visual part of the event wasn't up to the highest standards. Besides the visuals from Zvuk Broda in Onoxa for Bonobo&and band show let us mention a whacky installation called Worinkg Title by the very active crew of young street artist and graphic designers Zek and Design Session Utrip which will have two teams of visual artists nejaaka and Jabuk&Tibor creating live and simultaneously their vision of the history of Club K4. Every step of their working process will be visible to the crowd on a giant projection as will, of course, be the finished work.
