Dub-Stuy presents Echo Chamber V: OM Unit / DJ Madd / Dave Q / JAH Life // Limited Free Tickets

  • On October 10th, Dub-Stuy returns to the Paper Box with another night of earthshaking bass for the fifth edition of Echo Chamber. This time, their 15,000W custom wooden sound system will provide canvas for London electronic music innovator Om Unit (Metalheadz/ Exit/ Civil Music), Hungarian/UK dubstep whiz DJ Madd (Roots and Future/ Black Box/ War), Dubwar founder Dave Q (Dubwar) and legendary brooklyn reggae and dub label owner Jah Life (Jah Life Records). The party will also serve as the launch event for Dub-Stuy Record’s new release, “Battle Cry Remixed” - the follow up to Tour de Force’s debut album “Battle Cry”. Dub-Stuy will host an exclusive pre-party listening session of “Battle Cry Remixed” at the Paperbox starting at 8pm. The event will give fans and press members the opportunity to experience the album on Dub-Stuy’s unique sound system First 50 people through the door with RSVP FREE // $10 after with RSVP Visit for details: www.dub-stuy.com/rsvp OM UNIT As Om Unit, Jim Coles has spent the past three years refining his unique sound with releases on Goldie’s Metalheadz, dBridge’s Exit Records, Plastician’s Terrorhythm and Civil Music. Via collaborations with Machinedrum (as Dream Continuum on Planet Mu), Mark Pritchard, Kromestar, Fracture and Sam Binga plus his short-lived, much hyped footwork-jungle alias Phillip D. Kick and remixing Joker, Reso, Kramphaft, Starkey, VIVEK, Foreign Beggars, Shigeto, Illum Sphere and more we can see the confluence of all this work takes full flight on his debut album ‘Threads’. Grounded in Coles’ junglistic roots, a relationship that has driven much of his recent output and DJ work, ‘Threads’ connects the dots between many genres, taking in hip-hop, jungle, bassweight and slow/fast. It features Gone The Hero,(a mysterious new project to be unveiled on Jneiro Jarel’s Label Who imprint in 2014), Jinadu, Young Echo’s MC Jabu, and London’s urban poet, and legend, Charlie Dark. It is perhaps cliché to claim that a record is a standout, a classic before its time, or that the producer is one of the hardest working and most unique, yet Coles’ maturation as a producer over the past decade, synthesising influences and references across his prolific output makes Threads truly feels like it has that classic potential and that Om Unit is a producer deserving of the hype. DJ MADD Hungarian-born producer DJ Madd is widely recognised in the dubstep scene; highly acclaimed for his WAR series of white label releases, he's been championed by industry stalwarts including Youngsta and released tunes on labels Black Box, Osiris and Wheel & Deal. The Bristol-based DJ, also known as Peter Simon, can be found at venues across Europe, including at Caspa's infamous Dub Police event, and is regularly played on Rinse FM and BBC Radio. Madd's musical output is now reaching back to the reggae-influenced sound, building up a diverse following who love the old school dubwise sounds with bone-shaking bass and the low end of the sonic spectrum. This fusion is the main focus of his label, Roots & Future, which just launched earlier this year scoring recent support by the mighty David Rodigan. DAVE Q Dave Q founded the seminal New York club night Dub War in 2005 (America's first dubstep party), and has continued to lead the charge for bass music in all forms in New York City. Named Top NY Resident DJ by Red Bull in 2013, he has been an early advocate of the hybrid of footwork, jungle, drum n bass, and dubstep in his recent sets. Dave is responsible for having brought artists including Kode 9, Mala, Loefah, Skream, Actress, Shackleton, and Ramadanman all for their debut North American shows. His DJ sets explore bass music's evolution into new tempos and textures. Dave is one of the few American DJ's to have played London's legendary DMZ club night, and is a regular performer and collaborator with the Unsound Festival. JAH LIFE Hyman “Jah Life” Wright (also known as Papa Life) is a record producer and audio engineer from Kingston, Jamaica, who has produced more than 150 reggae singles, mostly through his Brooklyn-based record label, Jah Life, which he founded in the late 1970s. In 1981 Hyman Wright produced one of Eek-A-Mouse's first singles, "Georgie Porgie". After Wright and Barrington Levy met in 1979, Wright produced a number of Levy's early releases. Among these are "Black Roses" (1983) and "Murderer" (1984); the latter Wright co-produced with long-time collaborator Patrick Chin.
