Kevin Saunderson, Silvie Loto

  • Saturday, December 6th • Flash Bar opens 8PM, club doors 10PM Godfather of techno, Kevin Saunderson, returns to Flash on a Saturday night, with Italian songstress Silvie Loto on hand to kick the evening into high-gear. Between his old-school Detroit sound and impeccable selection of new, cutting-edge tracks, Kevin Saunderson has mastered ways to stay current in the dance music world. 2014 sees Kevin Saunderson playing over 100 shows, proving that his sound is more relevant than ever, playing host shows such as the Ceremony Festival in the UK, Watergate Berlin, Electric Forest and Awakenings amongst others. For Detroit's Movement festival, Kevin was asked to play back-2-back with Seth Troxler in 2013 and solo in 2014 to close out the festival. Few people have influenced dance music in general as much as a Detroit-native and a member of the original Belleville 3. We owe great debts to Kevin Saunderson for his ingenuity and pioneering spirit and we are please for him to be joining us on a Saturday night when he can play an extended set time. Personally tapped by Marco Carola for his wildly popular Music On parties in Ibiza, Silvie Loto of BPitch Control knows how to build a groove with the best on the planet. On warm-up is Silence in Metropolis' Parker. At the age of nine he moved to Belleville, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit where he attended Belleville High School and befriended two students, De rrick May and Juan Atkins. Saunderson, with Atkins and May, (often called the "Belleville Three"), is considered to be one of the originators of techno, specifically Detroit techno. He is married to Sharmeela Lamarsha Saunderson. Although frequently associated with Detroit, Kevin Saunderson spent the early years of his life in Brooklyn, New York, before moving to Belleville, Michigan, a rural town some 30 miles from Detroit. As teenagers attending Belleville High School, Atkins, May, and Saunderson were fans of DJ Charles "The Electrifying Mojo" Johnson and the pop, disco, and funk music he played. Atkins and May soon became serious about mixing others' music and creating their own, but Saunderson pursued other goals first, studying telecommunications and playing American football at Eastern Michigan University. Atkins had begun recording with Cybotron in 1981, but it was not until 1985 that May followed suit and made a record. Initially concentrating on becoming a DJ, Saunderson watched the six-month-long process as May completed "Let's Go;" he was inspired to create his own music. On his Inner City act: a Saunderson collaboration that came about "by accident," according to Saunderson when, in 1987, he recorded a backing track in his home studio, but needed lyrics and a female vocalist. His friend, Chicago house producer Terry ‘Housemaster’ Baldwin suggested Paris Grey. "Paris agreed, flew into Detroit, came up with lyrics and ‘Big Fun’ was born."[1] Saunderson filed away the tape until, months later, UK dance entrepreneur Neil Rushton came to Detroit in search of music for a compilation album, Techno - The New Dance Sound Of Detroit for Virgin Records. Neil enthusiastically included "Big Fun" on the album. It was soon released as a single and became a worldwide smash, only to be outsold by Inner City's follow-up single, "Good Life." A debut album, Paradise, soon followed. Over the years, and after three albums, Inner City had about 12 Top 40 hits in the UK and two Top 20 albums, with combined sales of more than 6 million. SILVIE LOTO: Silvie Loto developed a deep connection to electronic music from her early teenage years. At the age of 17, she reaches the shores of club music, through London, Spain and Germany. It was here she discovered the essence of underground dance music and sharpened her skills before coming to the forefront of the scene. In 2008 she started to play at Tenax club in Florence, later going on to play at the best clubs in Italy, sharing the bill with some of the best international djs. Since 2010 she has been a resident of the legendary party Ultrabeat at Goa club in Rome, and the well-know Nobody's perfect party at Tenax club Florence, delivering the best sets from warm-up to peak time. Since 2012 she has bee a part of Marco Carola's widely acclaimed "Music On" party at Amnesia Ibiza and in summer 2013 she joined Jamie Jones's residency in Ibiza, "Paradise" at DC10. Her sets mix House and Techno influences and her broad knowledge of the electronic music allows her to deliver versatile and deeply emotional sets. Summer 2013, Silvie released "Solstice" EP on BPitch Records, delivering a truly wide palette of sounds and atmospheres.
