Drop Music is celebrating its 10th year anniversary this October: no mean feat for an underground house Midlands -based label operating in true DIY style. With a catalogue of 59 releases to its credit, moving from strength to strength, the beaming label is renowned within the underground dance community for the quality and consistency of its unrivalled music.
Springing out of a knowing collective of DJs, producers and party organisers operating within the Smokescreen Sound System since 1991, Drop Music began delivering music straight for the dance floor in 1998. Inland Knights (Laurence Richie and Andy Riley) are a name synonymous with Drop Music: Laurence launched the label as an outlet for their prolific creative output.
They’ve since adopted various guises to showcase their diverse sound, including Grand Theft Audio, Toka Project, Larry Fives, Party Criminals, In House Alterations and Big Audio Spidermite, among others. Their infectious blend of jackin’ house beats – ranging from flirty to dirty to filthy - catapulted them to international popularity, both for their productions and DJ sets.
To commemorate 10 years, the label is releasing the triple album ‘From Dust Till Dawn – 10 Years of Drop Music’ in October. Along with re-mastered favourites from Drop Music’s back catalogue, the album also comes equipped with a disc of exclusive, previously unreleased productions and remixes from various artists including Crazy P, Miguel Migs, Johnny Fiasco, Joshua Heath and Inland Knights. A third disc will feature an exclusive Inland Knights DJ Mix.
