  • DJ, producer, cartoonist and occasional tea drinker, Andy Carthy aka Mr Scruff has announced a series of dates across Australia this February His recorded work for one of legendary UK record label Ninja Tune has made him one of the longest signed artists and a firm favourite with fans of across-the-board Soul and Electronica. From his breakthrough 1999 debut LP Keep It Unreal to his newest album Friendly Bacteria (released May 2014), Mr Scruff has been able to straddle Hip Hop beats, Swing House, Cheeky Sub Wobblers and Mid Tempo nodders like no other. Friendly Bacteria features the most live instrumentation of any of his LPs and features the club shakers Render Me and We Are Coming, remixed by Andres and Max Graef, respectively. Not one to shy away from playing out his own productions, look out for a catalogue-spanning selection on this tour as well as all of the ‘what-was-that!?’ moments you’d expect from a world-class crate enthusiast. Priding himself on playing marathon sets that delve deep into his bubbling musical cauldron; flitting between soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, latin, ska, disco, house, funk, breaks, soundtracks and more, it’s key to note that Carthy knows music, having a desire to play exactly what he wants, rather than having to fit in with the general music guidelines.. Mr. Scruff’s live set consists of ever changing genres with a large dose of cheek and good humour. The Jazz Times labeled him as, a “rare breed of music alchemist—genre-defying, irreverent and fun”. Fuelled by his knowledge, all the while improving his DJ skills, he “breaks the rules, but he gets the job done” declared Musiceyz. Accompanied by his brilliantly cute animations on the big screen, Mr. Scruff is sure to deliver a playful audio and visual spectacle that will have Australian audiences raving about for days after. Described by Pitchfork as “quite possibly the answer to all of your sugar-fueled Saturday morning disco prayers, churning out one chocolate-frosted cereal box prize after another and bringing down the house with an inspired mix of rubbery funk, hipster soul and gleefully contorted, krush groovin’ hip-hop“. Don’t miss your chance to be part of Mr. Scruff’s mischievous playground. “…impossible not to move with the music” – Clash Music “For Mr. Scruff, playtime is serious shit” – Pitchfork
