Housepitality Feat. Shiny Objects, Sleight Of Hands, Derek Hena

  • HOUSEPITALITY proudly features some of San Frandisco's most important musical tastemakers as we bring together a long-overdue reunion of crews & mischief makers, from Monarch to Pink Mammoth, with this special lineup: San Francisco is home to so many amazing music makers, partiers, artists, and of course DJs, that sometimes it takes us a while to get around to all of them, and this long-overdue night—featuring royalty from various SF nightlife institutions—is a great example. Shiny Objects (Chris Smith) is a San Francisco house institution. The founder of Om Records (yes, that Om Records) all the way back in 1995, Chris has come a long way, with a wildly successful record label, years and years of amazing experience as a house DJ, producer, and label owner. Now releasing music as Shiny Objects, running his new Smoke n Mirrors label, and running (along with some of our other friends) a wildly successful SOMA nightclub named Monarch (maybe you've heard of it?), he's clearly come full circle and an SF legend... and it's high time he came and played for us! Also sharing the booth is a DJ duo by the name of Sleight Of Hands, a project comprised by DJ M3 aka Manny and friend Phil Collis. Manny's been rocking decks around SF long enough to have become infamous himself, and his talents are well-known in the scene. When he's not helping run Monarch, he's been making music and playing records with Phil, and generally being a badass. It's been too long and we can't wait for the mayhem from these particular mischief makers. Opening the main room, a legend from the Burning Man sound camp-turned California party juggernaut, Mr. Derek Hena. Derek's known as a key member of Pink Mammoth, but he's also known for running and booking for one of the dopest clubs in this fair city: Mighty. His years of nightlife (and not to mention DJing) experience will make sure that our party begins bumpin early, and in exactly the right way. In the back, two friends who've been around the way, another couple of absolutely amazing and great heads, aka Ron Elder and The Tourist (Mickey Darius). Your musical future is in good (if slightly unhinged) hands, and dancing is assured. We wouldn't fool around with our Groove Lounge. We got you. - the crew The details: Shiny Objects "Deep, fat basslines with splashes of techy disco." Sleight of Hands Definition: a: a cleverly executed trick or deception b: mysterious alias of 2 electronic producers The first rule of professional magicians is that they must never reveal their secrets, and ridiculously-talented Producer and DJ-duo, Sleight of Hands, aren’t giving away any of their mystery any time soon. What they have inevitably divulged through their accomplishments is that when a Bay Area rave specialist and a British transplant with a classical music background come together, the resulting dynamism is no illusion. Manny Alferez and Phil Collis have artfully dedicated the focus of their wizardry to a shared passion for electronic music, and Sleight of Hands beams as a beacon of fresh disco-laden house sounds that is here to stay. Derek Hena Originally from upstate New York, Derek made the pilgrimage to SF soon after Pink Mammoth was born, and immediately took a lead position in the rapid growth of the collective. While holding down a day job as a booking agent/talent buyer at Mighty, Derek helps coordinate all aspects of Pink Mammoth events. He’s also known to get quite a groove on behind the decks every now and then. DUH. Ron Elder The Tourist aka Mickey Darius Enjoy handcrafted cocktails by our very own groove lounge mixologist. World class acts, world class music, every Wednesday night.. We got you!
